It’s hard to complain about something that is free (to me and two companions with my Capital One Venture X card). My family has gotten so much use out of the Capital One Lounge at DFW. We go there before almost every flight for a relaxing meal or snack. You can see my original review here.
This past weekend, I arrived at the airport early to have dinner in the lounge before my flight. When I arrived downstairs, there was actually a waitlist to get into the lounge. I’ve never experienced this before. I put my name on the list, and they told me it would be 20-25 minutes. However, I got a text just 4 minutes later telling me that it was my turn to enter.
I was happy to see some new-to-me dishes on the buffet (meatball sliders and garlic deviled eggs) as well as some kid-friendlier desserts (3 types of cookies).
But the thing that made me the happiest was the addition of takeaway water containers! The lounge has always had boxed sandwiches and salads plus some canned drinks, but regular water was never an option. Yes, I know it’s a small thing, but it’s a big deal to me.
I always take water with me on my flights. I have chronic sinus problems, and so I often need a sip of water. Usually, I have to stop by a store and buy water after I leave the lounge. Not anymore!
So now, I’m saving even more time and money at the airport. It’s the little things. 🙂

The Washington Dulles Cap1 lounge has had the boxed water and canned drinks in the take-out section since day one. It’s right after security and I always stop by to take a couple of boxes/cans with me.

@Jason Interesting! It’s been a few months since I’ve been to the DFW lounge so maybe they’ve had it for a while now.

Just carry a reuseable bottle, empty it before security, and fill it in the airport. Easy.

Yes, I do this every time. There are now water bottle fill stations with most drinking fountains in the airports!
Nancy says
@Jeff Good idea. I need to buy a lighter water bottle though.

Water is also a pet peeve of my wife. She also likes to have a bottle of water on the flight. And none of the lounges seem to have bottled water to take with you. It left me wondering if there was some sort of deal cut that the lounges could not have bottled watered so that the airport stores could sell them for $3.50. And I still wonder.
Nancy says
@Tom Yes, I wonder the same! The last time I bought water at the airport (I think it was Dallas Love Field) it was over $6 a bottle. The water in the Capital One Lounge is in small cartons, which are a little weird to fit into a backpack’s side pocket. But, I’ll take them.

^This right here. This drives me nuts.
“Would you like a strong cocktail that we’ll mix up in front of you, then carry your glass away and wash it? No problem, enjoy!”
Would you like a bottle of water? JUST KIDDING, HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?! THAT’S GOING TO COST US 20 CENTS!
