Yesterday, my husband and I each applied for a new credit card. And now, we’ve got 200,000 miles coming our way!
Barclays Lufthansa Miles and More World Elite Mastercard
My husband and I were just approved for the Barclays Lufthansa Miles and More World Elite Mastercard (non-affiliate link). The welcome bonus is currently 100,000 miles after spending $3000 in the first 90 days. Since we both applied separately (Player 1 and Player 2 mode), we will have over 200,000 Lufthansa miles combined after we meet the required spending and paying the card’s annual fee ($89). Woohoo!
I just wrote about this card last week, so I won’t go into too many details again.
Why did we choose this card? Well, both my husband and I have quite a few Chase cards already. And, right now Amex is not approving us for cards. We’ve been in this miles and points hobby for many years, and we’ve either had most credit cards already and/or can’t get approved for some based on bank application restrictions. This card’s high welcome bonus, combined with reasonable spending requirement and annual fee, made sense for our situation.
I do not recommend this card as the first or second card for newbies. If you’re just getting started with traveling on points, check out this post with a few credit card recommendations.
What will we do with these miles?
My favorite part about getting a new credit card with a big welcome bonus is dreaming about where we will go with those miles.
I’ve already booked most of our travel for 2024, so I’m looking at early 2025 trips. We will most likely NOT use these Lufthansa miles to fly on a Lufthansa flight to/from Germany. Instead, we will probably use the miles to book flights on a partner airline to Asia. Visiting Japan and Hong Kong are on my wish list. Lufthansa has several partner airlines (United, Cathay Pacific, Eva Air, Singapore) that could get us there.

Hi Nancy, are the surcharges on those redemptions to Asia reasonable? I know that to redeem on Lufthansa own metal you will have to pay big bucks for fees and taxes.
Nancy says
@Boris My research says the taxes on a business class ticket on a partner airline using Lufthansa Miles runs $28-$242 each way, depending on the airline. Not too horrible.
