One of the biggest complaints in the miles and points community is lack of award availability at decent miles prices. I agree that finding reasonable award redemptions can be difficult. But, it’s not impossible. Flexibility and persistence are keys to finding award flights that work.
Many miles and points travelers are busy booking award flights for Sumer 2024 right now. But, if you haven’t yet booked anything for spring break in March, there is still some great award flight availability out there. Here is what I’m seeing in Economy for a family of 4. Note that award availability changes all the time, and these screenshots were pulled last night.
Europe in March
Europe isn’t the most popular spring break destination for Americans. But, March is an off-peak tourist season with lower crowds. In fact, my family is going to Europe for spring break! I see a lot of Economy award space available for a family of 4 on various dates in March:
Dallas to/from Madrid: Iberia (using Avios) for 21,250 each way:
Chicago or NYC to/from Madrid: Iberia (using Avios) for 17,000 each way:
These flights are a great way to get to Europe. If you want to explore a different destination besides Spain, you can always book a cheap hopper flight to another country in Europe.
Remember, you can book Iberia flights with Avios through Iberia or British Airways. You can transfer points from several banks (Capital One, Chase, Amex, Bilt) to Avios.
Cancun, Mexico
I’m seeing some great mid-week award prices in March 2024 on American Airlines from Dallas to Cancun, Mexico. If you have flexibility to fly in and out during mid-week days instead of on the weekend, I see nonstop flights in both directions for 8k AA miles:
I see similar award pricing from PHL and JFK to Cancun.
Southern California
March is a great time to visit Southern California. I’m seeing great award prices on American Airlines for a family of 4 from Dallas to the LA area:
I also see some low mileage awards from the East Coast to LA area with a stopover. Stopovers aren’t ideal, but these aren’t too terrible:
Have you booked award flights for spring break yet?

Spring break travel can be a challenge to book, but this article gives me hope that there are still great award flight options available. Flexibility and persistence really do pay off when hunting for those elusive deals. Can’t wait to explore the possibilities.

Looking to go to Florida in April. Was wondering if it was too early to book now…
Nancy says
@Deva It’s definitely not too early! Most airlines have schedules out through mid-July, although the low-cost carriers like Southwest, Frontier and Spirit haven’t released that far ahead yet.
