This morning, I received an email from Finnair detailing several upcoming changes in 2024. The biggest change is that Finnair will be joining the Avios loyalty network (which is currently used by British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Qatar).
Summary of Finnair Changes
- Finnair Plus loyalty program is switching to a spend-based model (instead of number of flights)
- Current Finnair Plus award points will be converted to Avios on a 3:2 basis
- Finnair Avios can be transferred to and from British Airways Avios in 2024
- The number of award seats available will be increased to 4 seats per flight within Europe and 8 seats per flight on long-haul flights
- A new, more-spacious lounge will open at Helsinki Airport mid-2024
You can read more about all the changes here.
My Thoughts
I’m excited about this change! Finnair has a nonstop flight between DFW and Helsinki that could be a good gateway to Europe. With more award seats available and more ways to transfer to Finnair Avios, I’m interested to see how this plays out.

I understand how good a new nonstop feels — even though I’m jealous of all the choices you have from your DFW home. BA added a nonstop to LHR from my home CVG. Even though I get hammered on taxes/fees (and dodge the BA Business Class seat selection charges only because of AA status), I love it. No longer in Delta CVG-CDG prison.

@Michael I’m glad BA added a nonstop from your airport! I admit we’re a bit spoiled here in DFW with our options for flying to Europe.
