My daughter and I had an early morning flight from Athens to Paris (and then on to Dallas). When I have super early flights, I prefer to book the most convenient airport hotel, even if I can’t book it on points or with a great rate. For this trip, I booked Sofitel Athens Airport Hotel for the night before our flight home. Our room rate was around $250 for the night.
Sofitel Athens Airport Hotel
This review will be brief because our time inside the hotel was brief. Earlier in the day, we toured the Plaka area and only came to this hotel around dinner time.
Its location was actually a bit closer to the airport than our last airport hotel (Hilton Rome Airport Hotel). We just had to walk across the drop-off lanes and up the escalator to get to the airport check-in counters.
Our hotel check-in was very quick. The lobby area was nice, and there was an adjacent bar/restaurant.
Our room was quite a bit larger than our room at the Acropolis View Hotel earlier in the week.
The beds were super plush and definitely the most comfortable beds of our entire trip.
The room had a long counter/desk with two desk chairs.
The bathroom was modern with an enclosed bathtub and shower:
We decided to have a quick bite at the airport for dinner instead of eating at the hotel restaurant. Athens Airport had plenty of dining options outside of security, including a cafe with outdoor seating (of course!). We decided to eat at Burger King, which had great runway views:
This was the last day of our 2-week trip, and my daughter and I were pretty tired. We didn’t try the hotel’s indoor pool. And, since we had to leave the hotel around 4:30 a.m., we did not eat breakfast at the hotel either.
Overall Thoughts
While not a bargain by any means, the location of Sofitel Athens Airport Hotel is unbeatable. For us, it was worth the splurge for a comfortable night of sleep and a seamless walk to the airport in the very early morning.

I just stayed there after by cruise! In order to get award flights to work out I had to stay one extra day in Athens. I knew I was going to be tired after the cruise and would need a place to catch up on work so I picked this hotel also. It was pretty nice actually and I enjoyed the large room and desk for working on my laptop.
I did the same thing as you and walked over to the airport to have dinner pre-security. I found a place with a really good salad bar that wasn’t too expensive.
I looked at the Burger King also but the prices were pretty high relative to the place downstairs. 🙂
There was even a mini grocery store in the arrivals area at the airport, so I bought some snacks I had for lunch.
The hotel is possible to book on points but for the date I needed, no point options were available.

@John the Wanderer I’m glad you enjoyed your stay there! I wouldn’t have picked Burger King but my daughter twisted my arm. 🙂

The Sofitel Athens Airport Hotel seamlessly blends convenience and luxury. Its unbeatable location right next to the airport terminal makes it perfect for travelers. The rooms are elegantly appointed, offering comfort and tranquility despite the bustling surroundings. Impeccable service, coupled with a refined ambiance, creates a pleasant stay. While the dining options are a bit limited, the top-notch amenities including a fitness center and spa compensate well. A top choice for those seeking comfort and proximity.
Nice article.
