Carnival Sunrise passengers dealing with no A/C

July 31, 2023 By Nancy 4 Comments

According to multiple news sources and many people on social media, Carnival Sunrise cruise ship is currently dealing with A/C issues in staterooms and public spaces. Guests in multiple cabins are reporting stateroom temperatures of over 80 degrees.

Due to multiple complaints, Carnival is offering passengers a 50% refund for the days in which their stateroom temperatures are “outside of the ideal range”. The 50% refund is offered in the form of an onboard credit.

Carnival Cruise brand ambassador John Heald states: “Extreme heat and record-setting ocean temperatures have placed added stress on our air conditioning system which is affecting the temperature in some areas of some of our ships. I promise that our engineering teams and shoreside beards are doing all they can to rectify this.”

This isn’t the first time the Carnival Sunrise cruise ship has received some bad press. Formerly known as the Carnival Triumph, this ship experienced a fire inside the engine room in 2013 and lost power. Drifting at sea for days without power, raw sewage began to back up on some passenger decks, and the cruise was dubbed “The Poop Cruise”.

I know that most travel hiccups should not ruin a vacation. But, lack of air conditioning would be a deal breaker for me. Whenever I travel, I always set the temperature very low at night. I wouldn’t be able to sleep in super hot room.

Do you think Carnival is doing enough for those passengers affected? Have you experienced A/C issues on a cruise or in a hotel room?

At an absolute minimum, Carnival needs to offer a free cruise of equal or higher value. Less urgent but still critical, they need to offer at least a 50% refund in cash to all affected passengers. I simply can’t get to the point where stuffing people into a sweltering cabin where they can’t sleep is supposed to be acceptable on any level. It’s their screwup; it’s up to them to make it right.
