I’m still working my way through my trip report from my family’s two-week European vacation. After our cruise, my daughter and I hopped a short flight to Athens for a few days. Originally, I was going to book Grand Hyatt Athens for our stay. But, a reader recommended a hotel that is a bit closer to the action. I took his advice, and I booked a few nights at the Acropolis View Hotel.
Location, Service and Amenities
The location is perfect. The hotel is within a few minutes walking distance from the Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum and Plaka neighborhood. It’s also close to a few metro stops.
The exterior of the building:
Due to the strike at the Rome airport, we didn’t arrive at the hotel until around 2 a.m. I sent the hotel a message just to make sure they knew we were arriving so late. Check-in was quick and friendly. The lobby area has a sitting area with a jar of welcome cookies (tasted kinda like gingerbread, but round like a donut?) and a bar.
Acropolis View Hotel does have a very tiny elevator that can fit 1-2 people and maybe one suitcase. Lucky for us, at this point we were only traveling with one small suitcase.
The hotel doesn’t have any fancy amenities–no fitness center, no pool. But, the location and view from the rooftop restaurant are big draws.
We looked forward to breakfast every morning! The breakfast buffet was included. It wasn’t a huge buffet, but it was packed with a large variety of foods. Yogurts, cake, cheese, eggs, muffins…all good stuff.
The rooftop dining area had both indoor and outdoor seating. We always chose the outdoor seating. That view never got old.
The front-desk employees were always friendly and helpful, giving us maps and explaining how to get to restaurants and attractions. Our room was cleaned every day.
Our Room
Acropolis View Hotel only has 32 rooms. Some fit up to 3 people. I reserved a twin-bed room and paid extra to have a room with a view of the Acropolis. Our room was small, but very comfortable. And yes, it had air conditioning.
Our bathroom was also small, but adequate.
And then there’s our balcony with the Acropolis view. Stunning!
Our room was only $137 USD/night, including all taxes. What a deal!
If we were to stay at this hotel again (and I hope we do), I wouldn’t pay extra for the room with the Acropolis view. The rooftop area of the hotel is open 24 hours and has such a great view of the Acropolis, so I don’t think it was necessary from our room.
Overall Thoughts
Big thanks to blog reader Chris for recommending Acropolis View Hotel in Athens. We really loved our stay at this hotel. The location just can’t be beat, and the daily breakfast was spectacular. My daughter and I loved our time in Greece, and this hotel was part of the reason why.
