Location, location, location: Hilton Rome Airport Hotel

July 24, 2023 By Nancy 6 Comments

At the end of our European cruise, we had one extra day in Rome before my husband and boys flew back to the USA and my daughter and I flew to Athens. The boys’ flight left at 6 a.m. to connect in Paris. Because the flight was so early, I booked them a room at the Hilton Rome Airport Hotel. The reviews for this hotel are not great (3.5 on TripAdvisor). But, it was the most convenient hotel for their early flight.

Location and Cost

Hilton Rome Airport Hotel is located at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) near a parking garage.

It has a covered walkway and an elevated walkway to the terminal, which takes about 10 minutes.

For our date, the cost was the 60,000 Hilton Honors points for a standard room (that fits up to 3 people) or a cash rate of around ~$250. We used my husband’s travel credit on his Capital One Venture X card to book this hotel through Capital One travel.

From the hotel, the flat-rate taxi cost to the center of Rome is 50 Euros. You can also take the Leonardo Express Train for ~16 Euros per person.

Lobby, Restaurant, Amenities

As it turns out, the flight to Athens that my daughter and I were supposed to take was canceled due to a strike. So, we ended up spending some day-light hours in my boys’ room before our evening flight, and I got to see everything first-hand.

I told my family that this place might be a dump and to lower their expectations (based on the bad reviews).. So, we were all surprised at how nice the hotel was on the inside.

Check-in was efficient and friendly. The lobby area was clean and big.

The hotel’s gym is large:

Hilton Rome Airport Hotel also has an indoor pool with whirlpool spa and outdoor sports courts:

The hotel has a restaurant. My husband and sons decided to eat dinner there since they were too tired (after spending the day roaming around Rome) to walk to any airport restaurants. Despite the restaurant’s dismal reviews, they had a decent dinner there.

Twin Bed Room

Their twin-bed room fit three people, with an additional rollaway for the 3rd person.

Their room had a long desk and chair with ottoman. It was quiet.

Overall Thoughts

Hilton Rome Airport Hotel was, in our experience, much nicer than we expected based on reviews. Maybe we got an updated room? Maybe we were lucky with who was at the front desk? Every employee we encountered was friendly. My boys had a comfortable, quiet night here before their early flight. My husband reported that they had an easy time getting to their flight at o’dark thirty in the morning.

You really can’t beat the location of this hotel if you have a very early morning flight (or a late-arriving flight). I wouldn’t stay here as a base for a Rome trip. But for an early flight, the convenient location is worth the cost.

I have two issues with the Hilton FCO. 1. Getting an Uber to pick you up. There’s something about the app that always defaults to the airport. It’s really annoying, so I always have to make a note for the driver to come to the hotel. 2. I find the walk to be very long to the terminal, especially if you have a lot of luggage/heavy bags. Lol!! Otherwise, it the best place to stay if you have an early flight out of FCO (or you spent to much money on your Amalfi hotel and need to make up for it).

I also booked a room there for a trip in early Oct. We have a 6:45am flight out connecting in Zurich, so that seemed to be the logical thing to do since it appears to be the only hotel that you can actually walk to the terminals. How early did your boys head to the airport that morning for the early flight? I am trying to judge what time I need to leave the hotel to get thru any security or customs or whatever that airport requires.
    Thanks Nancy

@Tom They left the hotel about 2 1/2 hours before their flight. They said they still had about 45 minutes to sit at the gate before boarding began. The walk to the terminal is about 10 minutes from the hotel.
