Last week, we learned that MGM and Hyatt broke up after 10 years. Many of us who enjoyed the status match merry-go-round with these two brands were very, very sad.
Well, MGM has wasted no time being single and just announced a new partnership with Marriott!
MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy
According to the press release, MGM and Marriott are in a long-term licensing agreement that begins October 2023. The MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy includes 17 resorts in Las Vegas and other cities across the United States.
Beginning in October, some of these properties will be bookable using Marriott’s website and mobile app. All properties will be bookable through Marriott by the end of the year.
The 17 resorts that are joining the MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy include:
Bellagio Resort & Casino (The Luxury Collection)
ARIA Resort & Casino (Autograph Collection)
Park MGM (Tribute Portfolio)
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas (Autograph Collection)
Vdara Hotel & Spa
MGM Grand Hotel & Casino
NoMad Las Vegas
The Signature at MGM Grand
Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino
New York-New York Hotel & Casino
Luxor Hotel and Casino
Excalibur Hotel & Casino
Borgata (Atlantic City, New Jersey)
Beau Rivage (Biloxi, Mississippi)
MGM Grand Detroit (Michigan)
MGM National Harbor (Maryland)
MGM Springfield (Massachusetts)
Important Questions
The press release indicates that MGM Rewards members will be able to link their accounts to Marriott Bonvoy and vice versa to receive select member benefits. But right now, those benefit haven’t been spelled out. “More information about linking loyalty accounts, new experiences and other loyalty program benefits will be provided to members of both programs in the coming months.”
Of course, my questions are:
- Will I be able to link my MGM Gold status (which I have through the end of January) to Marriott in October to get a higher Marriott status?
- Will the MGM/Marriott partnership also have a status match merry-go-round due to the timing of each program’s expiration/renewal dates?
What do you think of this new MGM/Marriott partnership? Are you surprised, or did you see it coming?

Time will tell but I’m not sanguine about the new affiliation being as good or better than the old one. Marriott is absolutely less generous than Hyatt and I think that will be reflected on the new rules. I really hope I’m wrong but, well, Bonvoyed.

I’d love to know more about the MGM program. I have Marriott points but no MGM nothing. Should I be doing something with MGM to gain MGM points or status?
Nancy says
@Talchinsky MGM Gold status (or higher) is valuable if you’re visiting their Las Vegas casinos (or their other properties in a handful of US cities). With Gold you get resort fee waived, dining credits and room upgrade. MGM Gold status can also be matched to other casino statuses, which is how I got my free Carnival cruises and free Holland America cruise (matched to their casino statuses). With MGM Gold I could match to Hyatt Explorist and vice versa every year to get Explorist benefits. It remains to be seen how Marriott and MGM will match their statuses and which benefits will transfer. I would wait and see the details of this partnership before doing anything.
