Yes, I still get excited about new credit card approvals for myself! Credit card sign-up bonuses are the main tool my family uses to travel using miles and points.
A few days ago, I was approved for my first new card in 6 months! This hobby sure has changed a lot. Five to ten years ago, hobbyists were approved for new credit cards right and left without many restrictions. Today, it’s a different story. So, I’m counting my blessings with this new card approval.
My New Card
Drumroll…..my new approval is for the Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard. This is a non-affiliate link that doesn’t pay us commission. But when a card is good, we promote it regardless.
Leana just wrote about this card last week. I had actually applied for this card in January when it had a lower bonus, but was denied. After Leana’s success, I decided to apply again this month, and I was approved.
The current bonus is 70,000 AA miles after making just one purchase and paying the card’s $99 annual fee. It’s really one of the lowest-hanging fruits out there.
You won’t be approved for the card if you’ve received the bonus in the past 24 months. I don’t know how long this elevated bonus will last.
Living near Dallas where American Airlines has a hub, my family uses AA miles all of the time. I can never have enough AA miles. I’m hoping to fly to Costa Rica next year using AA miles.
Anyone else getting this card for the first (or second or third) time?

The regular application has only 60,000 miles with $2,000 spend in 90 days (https://cards.barclaycardus.com/banking/cards/aadvantage-aviator-red-world-elite-mastercard/).
Your link is a better offer, but is asking for a six-digit code (https://www.myaviatorcard.com/). Can anyone provide one that you got from a flight attendant? Hope it’s the same code for all.
Thanks,
Jon

Never mind, I found a link for 70K miles without need of a promotion code (https://www.applyaviator.com/).
Nancy says
@Jon Thanks…that link wasn’t working a few days ago but it looks like it’s back.

Congrats! Banks sure have tightened up. Some banks are still very lenient, others not so much. It helps to have a long term plan and prioritize your apps accordingly… but I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir here!
Still, if you haven’t been able to get a card for a while, it’s kind of funny Barclays ended up being the breakthrough. They’re not the most restrictive bank out there, but they can be stingy.

It’s a great card that I’ve had twice. Amazing that you still only need one purchase to get 70k miles. Not sure why more don’t do it?!

Will be applying once I unlock my credit. Any idea what agency they pull from…
Nancy says
@Deva I believe Barlays pulls TransUnion.

Are you looking to get approval for higher limits or loans with low APR. I recommend yo fix your credit score. 760Plus Credit Score is the best in terms of credit repairs.

i’m so excited too! I got one after Leanna’s post also and dont know what i’ll do with it yet as i never travel AA but i’m thrilled to have some bonus points either way!
Nancy says
@Sara Yay!

I’m getting this card for the first time. Per the flight attendant in an AA flight I was on, the bonus offer is good until June 30. And being on the flight supposedly gives us additional 500 miles with the six digit code they gave each one of us that are interested.
Nancy says
@Liz Thanks for the info on the ending date!
