Amex Loves Me, Amex Loves Me Not

June 6, 2023 By Nancy 5 Comments

I’m currently traveling! Follow Miles For Family on Facebook or Instagram to see photos. My replies to comments and emails may be delayed.

For a few years now, I’ve encountered Amex’s dreaded pop-op box when applying for Amex credit cards. The pop-up message warns me that I’m not eligible to receive the card’s bonus:

I Got the Dreaded Amex Pop-up Box….

Then, this past December, I received an invitation to apply for the Amex Hilton Honors Business card. And, I was approved! See I can’t believe it: Amex likes me again!

So, when the new higher offer for the Amex Green Card came out, I was excited to apply. But much to my surprise, I got the Amex pop-up box again! What?!?! I hadn’t even applied for any new cards with any bank in the 6 months between my Hilton Honors Business card approval and the Green Card application. And, I’ve put some decent spending on both my personal Hilton Honors Amex and my business Hilton Honors Amex.

So, I thought that Amex loved me again. But, it appears their love is conditional and only reserved for co-branded cards.

Anyone else have this same experience with Amex?

I figure it’s only a matter of time before it hits me. I’ve been very fortunate so far. The only reason I can imagine is due to putting a lot of spend on my amex cards when manufactured spending. But that’s just a wild guess. Sooner or later though, Amex will put their foot down!
