On my cruise last month, one of our stops was on St. Maarten. My family had been to St. Maarten in 2014 and toured around the entire island. During that prior visit, we did stop at the famous Maho Beach to watch the airplanes land overhead. But, we enjoyed our time at Mullet Bay Beach even more. So, when I saw an excursion to Mullet Bay Beach offered for just $26 on my recent cruise, I jumped at the chance to return.
Mullet Bay Beach in St. Maarten
Most cruisers flock to Maho Beach or Orient Beach in St. Maarten. But, in my opinion, Mullet Bay is a hidden gem that I’m tempted to keep a secret from the masses.
Mullet Bay is not too far from the airport. Mullet Bay Hotel used to sit on the bay until it was destroyed by a hurricane in 1995. Now, there are are some condos at the far end of the beach.
The beach has two bars/restaurants that both offer lounge chair and umbrella rentals. One bar offers indoor restrooms. My excursion through Royal Caribbean included a chair and umbrella rental.
There were plenty of chairs available to rent even after my excursion group arrived.
The water at Mullet Beach is so crystal clear. It looks like you’re in a swimming pool.
I took this photo partway submerged in the water:
On the left end of the beach, there are rocks and a trail.
I saw a few snorkelers enjoying this swimming hole at the end of the trail:
Cruisers in my group who swam a bit farther out reported seeing turtles and stingrays in the water.
I couldn’t have asked for a better day at Mullet Bay Beach. Clear water, low crowds, interesting sea life, gentle waves, soft sand…what more could you ask for? Oh yes, jet skis. There was also a jet ski rental place on site.
The next time I’m on a cruise that goes to St. Maarten, I’ll absolutely return to Mullet Bay Beach for the third time.
