If you’re the parent of a school-aged child, you can probably relate to this video about the month of May:
May is just a crazy, busy month! Sports banquets, class plays, theatre awards, field day, and the list goes on.
This week in particular has been rough for me. I turned 50. Yes, 50. My oldest son is graduating high school tonight. And, I have to say goodbye to a dear neighborhood friend this weekend who is moving to Europe. My emotions are all over the place as I’m running around attending events and cleaning.
The song that best describes my emotions is Happy/Sad from The Addams Family Musical:
TGIT (Thank Goodness for Travel)
Admittedly, I’m a bit of a wreck right now. But the one thing getting me through this week is my upcoming travel. Seriously. Knowing that in a few days I’ll be stepping off this emotional roller coaster and stepping onto a cruise ship in the Mediterranean Sea gives me hope and comfort.
We aren’t buying internet plans on this cruise. It’s just my family of five, eating unlimited soft serve ice cream cones on the ship and seeing some places I’ve been wanting to visit for years. I’m looking forward to sitting on our balcony, reading a book and leaving my cares behind.
I’m not looking for sympathy. I know I’m not the first person to go through these milestones. Writing this blog is therapeutic for me. And, so is traveling. So, if you see me in person this week and my mind seems to be in the clouds, it’s just me dreaming of my next trip.
Anyone else crawling to the finish line this month?!?!?

Very glad you’ll be going on a cruise to the med! cant wait to hear all the nitty gritty details! I’m planning one myself for next yr and it’s a bucket list thing for me. I’m nervous about it since i can only afford to go this once and its very foreign and very port intensive!

@Sara I’ll for sure post all the details when I return!

First child graduating high school… that alone would be enough to tie me up in knots! Add in turning 50 (happy birthday!) and a friend moving overseas… ouch. That’s week full of emotions!
Enjoy your trip, it sounds amazing!
