I’m a huge fan of a few travel celebrities (like Samantha Brown and Rick Steves). This month, I attended two zoom calls that I’ve really enjoyed. If you love hearing about travel destinations and having the chance to ask an expert questions, I highly recommend you check out Rick Steves’ Monday Night Travel.
Monday Night Travel
Monday Night Travel is a weekly zoom presentation that’s been going on since the pandemic but has thankfully continued. Each week covers a different topic/destination and has multiple experts on hand to present the topic and answer questions.
This month, I’ve attended two sessions:
- Lisbon with Cristina Duarte
- Destination Duel: Cinque Terre vs. Amalfi Coast
These presentations are free to attend, but you must register first on the website in order to obtain the zoom link prior to the presentation. You can also watch previous presentations that are archived on the site.
What I love about these presentations:
- They are highly visual, with maps, photos and videos. I know some people love travel podcasts, but I need to see a place visually.
- Some of the presenters are local guides and travel guides that have been to the area many times. These are people with boots-on-the-ground experience during many seasons.
- There is an opportunity to ask questions through the zoom chat feature.
I watched the Lisbon presentation because my family is planning a trip to Portugal next year. Then, when I saw that this week’s presentation was Cinque Terre vs. Amalfi Coast, I decided to tune in. The session covered local attractions, food, transportation and day trips from each area. My family is visiting Amalfi Coast this summer. But, after seeing the presentation, I now have the desire to visit Cinque Terre during a future trip to Italy.
Bottom Line
If you’re currently researching a trip, or if you want to be inspired to visit a new destination, check out these free Monday Night Travel sessions. We can geek out together!

I’ve only sampled a couple of Rick Steve’s podcasts and he chooses interesting places but in both he was speaking with women but he kept cutting them off while they were speaking. It was a little awkward to listen to. I’m not sure if I just got a poor representation or not. Have you observed anything like that?

@Christian Rick wasn’t actually on either of the Monday Night Travel presentations I watched (it was his staff members and local guides) so I didn’t experience that.
