Crazy High 175k Bonus on this Hotel Credit Card!

January 27, 2023 By Nancy 6 Comments

The Chase IHG Rewards Premier credit card currently has its highest bonus offer ever! Let’s take a look

Chase IHG Rewards Premier Credit Card

IHG has 17 brands, including Crowne Plaza, InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Kimpton, EVEN Hotels, and Indigo Hotels. The IHG Rewards Premier Credit Card is offering a 175,000-point bonus after spending $3000 in the first 3 months. That’s the highest ever bonus on this card!

  • 175,000 bonus points after spending $3000 in the first 3 months
  • Up to 26X points on spending at IHG properties
  • 5X points on travel, dining and gas stations
  • 3X points on all other purchases
  • Platinum Elite Status, which includes welcome gift and room upgrades when available
  • 4th night is free on award stays
  • Anniversary free night certificate
  • Global Entry/TSA Precheck credit every four years
  • $50 United Airlines TravelBank Cash each year
  • $99 annual fee

The Chase 5/24 rule applies–see this post. Note: You can only have one IHG personal credit card at a time, and you are not eligible for the bonus if you’ve received an IHG bonus on any personal card within the past 24 months. You CAN own both a personal and business version of the IHG card.

My husband and I each own this card. When we got the card a few years ago, the bonus was lower (125k). We keep the card because we get good use out of the anniversary free night certificate.

Who should get this card?

  • Road trippers who frequently stay in hotels
  • National Park visitors–many IHG properties are conveniently located near national parks
  • International travelers–IHG has a large footprint in other countries
  • Parents of college students–most college towns have multiple IHG properties
  • Anyone who wants to save money on hotel stays!

How my family has used our IHG points

When my husband and I each got our bonuses a few years ago, we booked rooms at Holiday Inn Old Sydney. The view from the rooftop was unbelievable!

I used my anniversary free night to stay near the airport at Crowne Plaza Geneva last summer in Switzerland:

My daughter and I used some free nights to stay beachfront at Holiday Inn Club Vacations Cape Canaveral:

And, in the past two years, we’ve used our IHG points to stay at numerous Holiday Inn locations during our son’s college search.

Note: The IHG Rewards Traveler card is the no-fee version with fewer benefits. It also has an elevated bonus worth 120,000 points after spending $2000 in the first 3 months. You can only own one IHG personal card, so you can’t sign up for both versions.

Any solid information on the “rules” around holding 2 of these cards? I believe it’s well known, and in the app rules, that you cannot hold one of the current cards and get a second version. But can you hold both the business and personal versions? Also, can you hold the legacy IHG Club version and obtain the Premier version, back when they made changes it was reported that you could hold the legacy card too, but has that changed?

@DJG Excellent questions. The rules have changed over the past year. You can hold one personal IHG card and the business version at the same time. However, you aren’t eligible for the welcome bonus on either of the new personal cards if you already have a personal card (including the old legacy card) or if you’ve received a bonus on any IHG personal card in the past 24 months. So, if you had an IHG card and canceled it and it’s been more than 24 months, you could be eligible to sign up for a new IHG card.
