I’m a bit shocked by this press release this morning, mainly because this is in my backyard here in Texas. I had to check my calendar to make sure it wasn’t April Fool’s Day. It’s not.
Universal Parks and Resorts announced the purchase of 97 acres of land in Frisco, Texas near the Dallas North Tollway and Panther Creek Parkway. It plans to build a new regional theme park called Universal Kids Frisco. See the press release here.
Universal Kids Frisco
Universal Kids Frisco will be an immersive theme park geared for families with young children. It will be about 1/4 of the size of other Universal parks. Rides, characters and shows will center around Universal characters. The company also has plans to build a themed hotel next to the park.
No opening date has been announced yet.
Page Thompson, President, New Ventures, Universal Parks & Resorts, states: “We think North Texas is the perfect place to launch this unique park for families given its growing popularity within this part of the country.”
The company released this concept art for the new park:
Is Disney next?
Ever since I moved here 20 years ago, rumors swirled about Disney building a regional theme park/hotel in the same area. It never materialized. I’m very curious if Disney will now come to the table with a competing experience in the North Texas area.
Bottom Line
Wow, Universal is coming to North Texas! I wish this was here when my kids were young. Oh well, there’s always grand kids!
What do you think of this announcement???

I’m with you on wondering about why Disney doesn’t build another park complex or two. Disney World is bursting at the seams and Disneyland just doesn’t have anywhere to grow.
Nancy says
Yes! We’ve got land here in Texas and the demand is there, too.
