Increased Offers on Southwest Credit Cards Just in Time for Companion Pass

November 4, 2022 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Update: Offers have expired. Check out our full list of credit cards here.

Chase just increased the sign-up bonus on all three personal Southwest Rapid Rewards credit cards to 75,000 points after spending $3000 in the first three months. Woohoo!

Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Plus Credit Card: $69 annual fee and two free EarlyBird passes each year. Get 3000 points on your anniversary.

Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card: $99 annual fee, two free EarlyBird passes each year, 6000 anniversary points.

Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Priority Credit Card: $149 annual fee, two free EarlyBird passes each year, $75 Southwest travel credit each year, 4 upgraded boardings per year, 7500 anniversary points.

You can only have ONE of these personal Southwest Rapid Rewards cards at a time, and these cards are subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule. You cannot receive a bonus if you have received a bonus from any Chase Southwest personal card in the past 24 months. See this post and this post for more details.

Why I Love Southwest Rapid Rewards Points

Southwest Rapid Rewards points offer maximum flexibility. The cost in points corresponds to the cash price.

You can cancel your award flight and get all of your points refunded to your account. You can also “re-shop” your award flight for a lower price and get the difference refunded. Southwest has no change fees and no baggage fees! And, you don’t have to pay for assigned seats (there are none) or carry-on bags.

The Southwest Companion Pass

The Southwest Companion Pass is a great tool for large families. If you earn a Companion Pass, your designated companion flies with you for free (or really just the $5.60 in taxes per flight segment).  My husband and I both had companion passes in the past, and we only had to pay for 3 of us to fly instead of all 5.

To earn a Companion Pass, you must earn 135,000 points in one calendar year. The benefits last through that year plus the next calendar year. Southwest credit card holders get an additional 10k points that go towards the 135,000 total.

The 75k bonus earned on these personal cards counts towards that 135,000 points. BUT, you must make sure you hold off on spending the last of the $3000 requirement until early 2023. If you have a small business, you can also apply for the Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Card. or the Southwest Rapid Rewards Business Performance Card.

See this post for more details about earning the Southwest Companion Pass.
