Royal Caribbean Will Finally Reveal Details of New Ship Icon of the Seas on Thursday

October 18, 2022 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Yesterday, Royal Caribbean released another teaser video about its next new ship, Icon of the Seas:

This Thursday, October 20, 2022, Royal Caribbean will FINALLY reveal details of Icon of the Seas. The company has been very tight-lipped about many details of this first ship in the new Icon class of ships. We don’t really know what the ship will look like, what features it will have, or the itineraries it will be sailing.

What We Do Know So Far about Icon of the Seas

  • Under construction at Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland
  • The ship will be 200,000 GT and hold 5600 passengers
  • Launch date is late 2023
  • LNG powered (first one for Royal Caribbean)
  • Ship has a huge sphere called “the Pearl” that was seen in construction photos
  • Icon will cruise out of the UK and eventually homeport in Miami

Another thing I know for certain is that Icon of the Seas will be priced higher than all of Royal Caribbean’s existing ships. People are always willing to pay a premium for the latest and greatest ship.

What I’d Like to See on Icon of the Seas

I don’t know what “the Pearl” is, but I’d be thrilled if it was a planetarium or some other kind of immersive theatre. A ride like Epcot’s Soarin ride would also be great.

I hope Icon of the Seas has some great new technology and a new “something” that makes us all go “wow!” Maybe it’s a ride, a new restaurant concept, or a kids’ club feature.

On a more practical side, I’d love to see Icon of the Seas have more connecting rooms for families. Royal Caribbean’s ships don’t have enough of these, and if you book late, there are none available.

What are you hoping to see on Icon of the Seas?
