Staying in an overwater bungalow would be a dream come true for me. No, I haven’t always had the dream. But after seeing so many miles and points hobbyists stay in one in the Maldives or in Bora Bora, the idea has grown on me. Long-time blog readers may remember when Leana went to Bora Bora in 2018:
Looks divine!
On my family’s Royal Caribbean cruise earlier this year, I had hoped to splurge on a floating cabana for the day at CocoCay, the cruise line’s private island. Unfortunately, these cabanas had a hefty price tag of $1699 on my cruise! Uh, no thanks. Instead, we rented a cabana on a cliff at Labadee for much cheaper. It was divine.
Another Opportunity for an Overwater Bungalow
I haven’t been actively chasing the chance to experience an overwater bungalow, but an opportunity popped up in some travel I already had planned. One of my cruise sailings next year stops in Roatan, Honduras. I noticed in the shore excursion section there is the option to rent an overwater bungalow at Turquoise Bay Dive Resort for the day.
The reviews for these bungalows on Carnival’s website are all 5 stars. And, the resort has a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor.
The price through Carnival is $354.99 for the day. That includes transportation to the resort, an open bar and lunch.
Each bungalow has two lounge chairs, a table and an over-water hammock.
The beach area looks lovely too:
I’m not expecting the views or the water to be like Bora Bora. But, a few hours of pampering on the water for me and my daughter sounds perfect.
Since our “free” Carnival cruise (by using my Hyatt to MGM to Carnival Fun Play status match) includes $200 of onboard credit, I only have to pay $155 out-of-pocket. Not too shabby!
Have you stayed in an overwater bungalow anywhere? Is it on your bucket list?
