Huge DCL News from D23 Expo 2022!

September 12, 2022 By Nancy Leave a Comment

This past weekend, the D23 Expo 2022 wrapped up in Anaheim, California. In case you haven’t heard of D23, it’s a Disney fan club that has both free and paid memberships with various benefits. Every year, the D23 Expo reveals big Disney news from multiple divisions (movies, Disney+, theme parks, cruise line, etc.). This year’s expo was no exception, and Disney executive Josh D’Amaro announced some pretty big Disney Cruise Line news!

Introducing the Disney Treasure

Another new cruise ship is in the works, which we’ve known about. However, the name of the ship was not revealed until yesterday. The Disney Treasure will set sail in 2024 and will feature Jasmine and Aladdin on their magic carpet as the atrium statue.

Not many details about the new Disney Treasure have been revealed yet. We do know that the theme of the ship will be centered around adventure and will feature Asian and African influences.

In various online Disney groups, fans are split about the ship’s name. Personally, I love it. It sounds very Disney, and it’s not a name that other cruise ships already have.

Disney Wonder Sailing to South Pacific and Australia

For the first time ever, a Disney Cruise Line ship will sail to Australia and the South Pacific. The Disney Wonder sets sail on a repositioning cruise from Honolulu to Sydney in October 2023 with a similar itinerary back to the U.S. in February 2024.

Lighthouse Point Island Destination

Finally, D’Amaro shared a tidbit more information about progress at Lighthouse Point, a second private island destination in The Bahamas. We learned that the island will be 90% solar powered, and DCL expects to begin docking there in 2024. Here is an artist sketch of Lighthouse Point:

What do you think of these announcements? Are you excited about any of this news?
