Good morning! Warning: This is a rant post.
I submitted a claim on my travel insurance 2 1/2 months ago, and it still hasn’t been paid. It hasn’t been denied, either. The company hasn’t asked me for more information, more receipts, etc. The claim has just been met with complete silence. Nothing. Nada.
I did send in two additional online inquiries asking about the status of the claim. One inquiry went unanswered. After I sent a second inquiry, I received this canned response a few days later:
“Due to the overwhelming volume of claims that we have received, we are experiencing a delay in processing claims. Your claims analyst will be in contact to discuss next steps just as soon as they have had the opportunity to review your documentation. We are working diligently to review your claim. We sincerely apologize for the delay, and thank you for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. “
I tried calling to see if I could get my claim resolved over the phone. I waited on hold for 30 minutes before I gave up.
My claim is not complicated. It’s for a visit to a cruise ship’s medical facility. I’ve had this exact claim twice before (on different policies) before the pandemic. One time, the claim was paid instantly following my submission. The other time, the insurance company paid me a few days later.
I know that this is not a dire situation. I will survive without getting reimbursed for a few hundred dollars. But, my multi-trip year-long travel insurance policy expires next week. I’m not feeling the desire to renew my policy with this particular company.
Is the same thing happening with every travel insurance company these days in our post-Covid environment? Has anyone had a claim processed recently, and what was your experience?

I called on one that had been submitted 3 months prior and was told they look at them on a first come, first serve basis and were still looking at claims from a month before mine was submitted. It unfortunately doesn’t matter if it’s easy or difficult, it sounds like they work off of when it came in. Sorry.

@Beth Thanks for sharing your experience. I guess I’m not alone with these delays.

@nagyfunds Go back and read the first sentence.

I, too, cannot find who the insurance company is you are referring to in your post! But if it’s Card Benefit Services thru Chase, expect around 3 months & resending docs. I think multiple people work on a claim who don’t pay a lot of attention & ask again for info prev provided. Just resend & be prepared to wait…
Nancy says
@Pam Yeah, based on comments here and on social media it seems my 3 month wait is not abnormal, unfortunately. I didn’t mention the company, but it’s Travel Insured.

For my guests, 2-3 months has been common. They have so many more claims than in the past.

Oh dang! I guess I’m right in the zone then.

Feles like a worthless post, more like a rant. You don’t even say who the insurance provider is…
