I don’t write about credit cards here every day, or even every week. However, the reality is that credit card sign-up bonuses fund the majority of my miles and points stash for free travel. And right now, there are a lot of good offers out there. Let’s take a look at some.
Chase Sapphire Preferred 80k
The Chase Sapphire Preferred card (affiliate link) remains my number one recommendation for newbies in the miles and points hobby. Why? The current sign-up bonus is 80,000 points after spending $4000 in the first three months. Those points are worth at least $1000 in travel, but potentially more if you transfer them to partners like Hyatt, Southwest or United. The annual fee is $95, which is effectively cut in half by the annual $50 hotel credit. See this post for more details.
Capital One Venture Rewards 75k
The Capital One Venture Rewards card (affiliate link) is another easy card for beginners. The current bonus is 75,000 miles after spending $4000 in the first three months. Those bonus miles are worth at least $750 in travel. The card earns 2X miles on everything and has a low $95 annual fee. See this post for more details.
Bank of America Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard 70k
The Bank of America Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard (non-affiliate link) has a bonus of 70,000 miles after spending $2000 in the first 90 days. My husband and I actually got this card last year when the bonus was only 50,000 miles. Reportedly, if you do a dummy booking on the Air France site, you may see the same offer with a $100 statement credit on top. The card earns 1.5X miles on all purchases and has an $89 annual fee. These miles are useful because you can also transfer Amex, Chase, Citi and Capital One miles into the program to increase your stash. We used our points to book business class seats to Paris this summer!
American Express Gold Card 90k
The Amex Gold Card has a bonus of 90,000 points after spending $4000 in the first six months. Previously, the bonus was 75k. This offer is only available through referral links. Try this link. The card has a $250 annual fee. But, if you apply by 6/8/22, you can get 20% back on restaurant purchases up to $250, which effectively eliminates the annual fee. The card earns 4X at grocery stores and dining, which can really add up. Amex points have a lot of travel transfer partners, which makes these points very useful.
Chase Iberia, British Airways and Aer Lingus Cards 100k
These three cards currently have a sign-up bonus of 100k Avios after spending $5000 in the first three months. Here are links for Iberia Visa Signature, British Airways Visa Signature and Aer Lingus Visa (affiliate links). The great thing about these points is that you can transfer between all three airlines for different award redemptions. Many hobbyists love the 34k Avios redemption on Iberia from Chicago to Madrid in lie-flat business class seats. In the past, I’ve used British Airways Avios to fly on American Airlines flights. So many possibilities!
Chase Ink Business Preferred 100k
This is the biggest sign-up bonus for any of the Chase Ink business cards. Chase Ink Business Preferred (affiliate link) has a 100k bonus after spending $15,000 in the first three months. Those are worth $1000 cash back or at least $1250 on travel. These points can be combined with your personal Chase points and spent on travel or transfers to partners. The low $95 annual fee makes this card very attractive.
Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Business Mastercard 80k
With the Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Business Mastercard (non-affiliate link), earn 80,000 AA miles after spending $2000 in the first 3 months. With a lot $95 annual fee, this is such an easy way to earn AA miles. I have this card and keep it for the free baggage on my AA flights. See this post for more details.
These are just some of the hot offers right now, and by no means is this an exhaustive list. See our entire list of credit cards here, and don’t hesitate to email me at nancy@milesforfamily.com if you have questions on which card is right for your travel goals. Also, before you apply, check out this post on bank approval guidelines.

Wow, thank you for sharing! I had no idea about the Amex gold referral link of 90k!!!

It’s a great offer and I wish I could get it again! 🙂

Actually I took a chance, this is my second time. I applied the first time in 2014, and closed the account early 2015. It’s a little over the 7 years, which I read can be considered the lifetime. I didn’t get any pop up to say I wasn’t eligible. I also chat with the Amex rep just now and she saw the 90K bonus applied to my account. Super excited, thank you again! P.S. I will post my link once I get the physical card and can add to my account if I get the 90K referral link.

@Elena YAY! That’s exciting. I’ve been on the Amex pop-up list for a few years now. I may try again soon.
