Review: Gamer Suite at Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk

Last week, while my family was road tripping around Texas for spring break. we had the chance to stay in the Gamer Suite at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk. The Gamer Suite is just one of the several themed suites that this hotel offers.

About the Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk

San Antonio is one of the most under-rated cities to visit, in my opinion. My family has visited the city several times, and there are so many fun things to do!

The Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk sits right on the River Walk with direct river access. It’s a very short walk to shops and restaurants along the river as well as The Alamo and Tower of the Americas. The location is perfect!

The hotel has over 1000 rooms including 46 suites. It’s a Category 3 hotel that costs 9000-15,000 World of Hyatt points for a standard room depending on the date. The standard suites and themed suites run 17,000-23,000 points per night.

The Gamer Suite

I originally booked a night in the Gamer Suite in December at off-peak pricing. However, Covid ruined our travel plans, so I rescheduled a visit during spring break. Of course, for this time we had to pay peak price of 23,000 points a night.

I picked the Gamer Suite because my kids love video games, and staying in a large suite is a treat for my family. The Gamer Suite is over 1000 square feet and connects to a king or a two-queen standard room. We were assigned the connecting king room.

Because of the gaming theme and the size of the room, this suite definitely has a “wow” factor.

My oldest son said, “Wow, this is a really nice area. I hope that my house can look like this someday.” You mean clean and uncluttered? So do we, son, so do we.

The main room has two sofas (one is a sleeper sofa, one is not).

Near the entrance there are two standing arcade games as well as a selection of card games and board games.

My boys loved this 75-inch television with a gaming chair and PS4 with games.

The Gamer Suite has two bathrooms (one in the bedroom, one in the game room). There is also plenty of room for a rollaway bed.

Other Cool Hotel Amenities

I love the rooftop pool and patio area. It’s accessible via the 5th floor where the themed suites are located.

a patio with chairs and umbrellas on grass and a city skyline

The rooftop has a few different patio areas with various seating options and games like giant Jenga, Connect 4, corn hole and lawn bowling.

The outdoor lap pool is heated.

The 5th floor rooftop has great city and sunset views.

The fitness center is quite large, and the hotel has two Top Golf suites in the lobby.

Final Thoughts on the Gamer Suite

The Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk is a great-looking hotel in a prime location to enjoy the River Walk. The Gamer Suite is a bit of a splurge on points or cash, but the space and amenities of the suite are worth the splurge. The next time my family returns to San Antonio, we may try the Entertainer’s Suite (with a pool table) just for something different. But overall, we give the hotel and the Gamer Suite two thumbs up.

@Ken I don’t think it did. I remember we could see the convention center and river walk from the window.

@Lynn The Hyatt phone rep told me the lounge still isn’t open even though they are selling club level rooms. Hmmmm…

This it going on the list of potential domestic trip ideas. Liked San Antonio the one short visit I made there. Would be fun to go back with my sons now that they are older.
