Well, all good offers must come to an end. I recently learned that the 100k sign-up bonus on the Capital One Venture X card is ending on March 14, 2022. I have no idea what the new bonus will be on the card. But, I imagine it will be lower. And, it’s also possible that the $200 vacation rental credit will go away.
If you were waiting to apply for this card, don’t delay. I think it’s a great card, and both my husband and I have the card.
Details of the Capital One Venture X Card
The current bonus on the Capital One Venture X card is 100,000 miles after spending $10,000 in the first six months. While that seems like a lot of money to spend, it’s less than $1700 a month of spending to get that bonus. Charging groceries, gas and other bills to the card and paying it off every month is doable for many families.
What can you do with 100k Capital One miles? You can spend it on travel in the Capital One travel portal (worth $1000). In addition, you can transfer the miles to airline and hotel partners for trips. I plan to transfer our miles to Air France Flying Blue for flights to Europe next year.
The annual fee is $395. However, the card comes with a $300 travel credit for travel booked through the portal AND a $200 vacation rental credit. Those two credits more than cover the annual fee. My HOA fees triggered the $200 vacation rental credit recently.
- No foreign transaction fees
- Earn 2X miles on purchases
- Earn 5X miles on flights booked through Capital One Travel
- Earn 10X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel
- $300 statement credit for travel booked through Capital One Travel
- $200 statement credit for vacation rentals (airbnb, VRBO)–limited time benefit
- $100 statement credit for Global Entry or TSA Precheck
- 10,000 bonus miles on card anniversary
- Access to Priority Pass Lounges and Capital One Airport Lounges (see my recent review) with up to two free guests
- $395 annual fee
As the old saying goes, get while the gettin’ is good!

After reading your post, I’m inclining to apply for one this weekend. However, I’ve never ever owned a card with that high of an annual fee. So, the annual fee is mostly offset if I just book a hotel, for example, through the capital one travel portal. Does that apply every year? And will I easily be able to book any hotels in Europe or are they specific brands? In Europe, I don’t usually use the brands we hear like Marriott. Also, what happens if I only use the card one year and cancel, will I lose the 100k miles I have earned?
Nancy says
@Liz Those are good questions! Yes, the $300 travel credit offsets a good chunk of the card’s annual fee. I just looked in the Capital One travel portal for a few cities in Europe, and there are quite a few local/non-chain hotels available to book. That $300 credit is available every year. During this current promotion, there is also a $200 airbnb/vrbo credit (although that’s only good for the first year). If you decide to renew the card, you get 10,000 bonus miles at renewal (worth $100). So that + the $300 travel credit basically covers the entire annual fee. If you decide to cancel the card before the annual fee hits again, you would need to spend the miles or transfer them to a partner airline before closing the card. I understand thatit’s a high annualfee and I don’t sign up for too many cards with this high of a fee.Good luck with your decision!

Spark Plus $3k bonus also ends on 3/14. I got one a month ago and will be getting one for my wife just before the deadline.

You’re right! I’m glad you were able to get that one. Such a huge bonus!! I hope there are more big bonuses to come on other cards. We’ve been spoiled lately.

My husband and I were both approved for capital one venture cards on 1 September 2021 so we’ve just passed the 6 month mark. Would we be (theoretically) eligible for this card? Venture is the only Capital card we have. I’ve checked on some other blogs, but I’m still not sure. Thanks
Nancy says
Yes, I believe so! The rule is only two personal cards, with approvals every six months. You should be good. Maybe wait a few days just to be safe.
