Starting tomorrow, Disney World and Disneyland will no longer require face masks for vaccinated guests. The only exception is that masks must still be worn on bus transportation. While the new policy state that unvaccinated guests are expected to still wear masks indoors, I doubt that will be enforced. Universal Orlando Resort dropped face mask requirement last weekend, while Universal’s California location has not yet announced a change.
Meanwhile, the CDC lowered its warning level for Covid-19 on cruise ships from a 4 to a 3, from “very high” to just “high”. The number of cases on cruise ships has dropped dramatically over the past week, just as it has on land.
I know that some people applaud these changes, while others cringe. I hope that the numbers keep moving in the right direction without anymore huge waves. Is that too much to ask? 🙂

Numbers are definitely headed in the right direction. The rapid drop from the peak of cases is staggering. While I look forward to “normal” and dropping the need for masking, we’re just not quite there yet. Just two days ago the U.S. 7-day average dropped below the Delta peak, and we’re still double where we were in November when the idea of dropping masks at Disney wasn’t even a consideration.
It would make more sense to me if they announced a date… 30 or 60 days from now. To just drop the requirement overnight is a lousy decision. Yeah, if you don’t like it, you don’t have to go. But imagine you’re immunocompromised and decided a few months ago you’re willing to go to Disney, because you felt safe with the mask mandate. Meanwhile you’re packing your bags and this announcement drops? Ouch.

Yeah, I think everyone should be prepared that protocols may be different by the time the trip comes around (either way–stricter or more lenient).
