The other day, I was sitting in our backyard spa/jacuzzi with my 14-year-old. He was feeling philosophical, and he asked me what my favorite thing was about the past year.
I had to think about my answer for a minute. Last year was a bit tough, with my mom dying and Covid affecting everything. However, I told him that getting this pool/spa was one of my favorite things because we use it almost every day, and we’ve had some good family chats while soaking.
I asked him the same question, and his answer surprised me.
He said his favorite thing about 2021 was our trip to Mexico. I thought he was kidding at first, because our short trip to Cancun wasn’t the best. We unknowingly swam in a poopy pool, the buffet food was terrible, and my sons spent so much time on their phones in their room.
I asked him why Mexico? He said he loved the trip because the Hibachi restaurant was excellent, the archery class was fun and he got to swim in a pool that connected to his room.
I’m so glad he latched on to the good memories from that trip instead of the mishaps. Our trips will never be 100% perfect, but it doesn’t matter. We are experiencing new places together as a family, and the good far outweighs the bad.
Have a great weekend!
