I’m almost afraid that by saying my plans out loud I will jinx these trips. Of course, since this pandemic is still going on, everything is in flux. But here is how I’ve used miles and points to plan travel for 2022.
Spring Break Road Trip
My kids’ school district has an early spring break this year. Originally, we were supposed to go on a cruise (that was pushed back from 2021). However, my family had Covid over Christmas, and that ruined our plans to spend time with family. Also, cruising is in a sad state right now. So, we made the decision to postpone the cruise once again in favor of a Texas road trip to see family. I booked a really cool suite with Hyatt points for one night in San Antonio.
Cruise
Third time is a charm for this cruise, right? If cruising is back up and running by May, we will be cruising on Royal Caribbean. Originally I had booked our flights on miles and our pre-cruise hotel on points. I just canceled our original flights on AA and received a refund of my miles. I’m still in process of changing our Hyatt hotel rooms since it requires a phone call. I’ll work on re-booking flights in the next few weeks.
College Visit
My son’s college visit plans have changed multiple times. But, maybe this date will stick. We’re using points to stay at a Hyatt Place.
France and Switzerland
Our big summer trip is flying to Europe in lie-flat business class seats. We used miles to pay for flights both ways, which is obviously a huge money savings. While we’re staying in apartment rentals for most of the trip, we are using IHG and Hyatt hotel points for our last nights near the airports in Zurich and Geneva.
U.S. Open
Later in the summer, my husband and boys will travel to New York to watch the U.S. Open (the tennis one, not golf). I booked them a few nights at a nearby Hyatt Place hotel on points.
Fall Beach Trip
My family is returning to North Captiva Island for a week this fall (see my previous review of this quaint island that is only accessible by boat). We are renting a house, but I hope to use AA miles or Southwest points for flights to Florida.
For my family, this is a lot of travel to accomplish in one year. But, we are dealing with trips that we pushed out due to Covid. And, I’m trying to squeeze in as much family time as possible before my kids fly the coop to college.
