Royal Caribbean Announces Cruise Cancelations on 4 Ships

January 7, 2022 By Nancy 6 Comments

I wish I had better news. Royal Caribbean just announced cruise cancelations on four ships. This announcement comes on the heel of Norwegian Cruise Line’s cancelations on 8 ships.

  • Vision of the Seas: Return to cruising is postponed until March 7, 2022. This ship has been taking on sick crew members transferred from other Royal Caribbean ships over the past two weeks.
  • Serenade of the Seas: Sailings from January 8 – March 5 are cancelled. The ship will return after a dry dock on April 26, 2022.
  • Jewel of the Seas: Sailings from January 9 – February 12 are canceled. The first cruise returns on February 20, 2022.
  • Symphony of the Seas: Sailings from January 8 – January 22 are canceled. The first cruise returns on January 29, 2022.

The cancelations are “as a result of the ongoing COVID-related circumstances around the world.” You can see the official announcement here.

All passengers on these sailing will receive a full refund. Guests who were scheduled to depart on these ships January 8-9 will also receive a future cruise credit in addition to the full refund. The cruise credit is valid on cruises up to one year after the original departure.

Bottom Line

There are just too many sick workers to keep some cruises going. I’m seeing this same effect in my local city. Restaurants have had to close down because too many employees are sick. I was just at the grocery store, and the cashier who rang me up was clearly sick. I guess he felt like he had no choice but to come in.

I fear this won’t be the last of the cruise cancelations. Harmony of the Seas and Allure of the Seas have had a lot of Covid cases as well, so I won’t be surprised if those ships are added to the list. Who will be next to cancel, Carnival or Disney?

I’m so thankful that I already postponed my upcoming cruise (which may end up being canceled anyway). Do these cancelations affect any of you?

My south America/antarctica cruise on norwegian was canceled earlier this week. To be honest, I was hoping for norwegian to cancel for a full refund. This is not a good time to be cruising. It seemed like a great idea when I booked it in August 2021, when covid was on the decline.

@John Sorry your plans were canceled. I cruised this past October, and things were running smoothly at the time. So much has changed these past few weeks.

As long as selfish, careless people/murderers keep traveling needlessly until the pandemic is actually over, I assume that we will continue to see this. Don’t really see how this is newsworthy other than to remind us of all of the crappy people that we are surrounded by.

Really? Murderers? I am vaccinated boosted and Covid survivor. Go screw yourself. I’ll travel when and where I want to. What a selfish person you are along with being an elitist snob. Who are you to dictate what, when and if people should travel. You’re exactly what’s wrong with this country jumping on your high horse while looking down on everyone else.

Ouch. I’m booked on a whole ship charter cruise on Harmony February 6th. I think my odds of that happening just went down.
