I booked a cruise on Carnival for my family in early 2023. Shocking, I know, and that decision warrants a separate post. This post, however, is about how I’m using Chase Offers to get a discount on that Carnival cruise.
Chase Offers
Just like American Express, Chase has special offers for credit card customers that include discounts at certain companies. You can see your Chase Offers in your online account and on the Chase mobile app:
If you have multiple credit cards, each card might have different offers. Some offers might be on multiple cards.
Admittedly, I am the worst at going after these discounts. For the most part, I feel that these discounts encourage people to spend money on something that they didn’t have plans to buy. I focus on sign-up bonuses from new credit cards, and I don’t spend a lot of time or effort on other ways of earning points and saving money with credit cards.
But for many, these Chase Offers are low-hanging fruit that are worth the while.
Carnival Offer
As I was about to book a Carnival Cruise, on a whim I decided to see if I had any offers on any of my credit cards for a discount. I checked Amex, Chase and Capital One offers. Sure enough, I saw this offer on Chase for $35 off $100 at Carnival:
This offer was actually on five credit cards between me and my husband. My travel agent was kind enough to put $100 charges on all five credit cards. Five days later, we received $35 statement credits on each card for a total of $175 discount on our cruise.
It’s not a huge discount. However, it took hardly any time to add this offer to each card and give instructions to my travel agent. A few minutes of my time is worth saving $175.
The only down side to paying for a cruise with so many different credit cards is that if we decide to cancel, our refund will go back to multiple credit cards. I’ll deal with that if the situation arises.
I was not targeted for the recent Amex discount on Royal Caribbean or Carnival. Since I have a few cruises on various cruise lines planned for the next three years, I plan to check my credit card offers periodically to see if I’m targeted for discounts in the future.
Do you check your Chase and Amex offers regularly?
PS–Also check out this post on Miles to Memories and this post on Frequent Miler about getting a discount or even free cruise from status matching casino status. I am not a gambler, but I do have mLife Gold status from matching my Hyatt status. So far, I have not received great offers from submitting this matching offer on Carnival’s website.

You can pretty much always bet on a statement credit somewhere for buying flowers online so I always check before buying those 🙂 if I’m booking hotels with cash I’ll check for that too. otherwise I’ll quickly peruse when I’m already logged in to pay my bills and then pretty much forget about them after that!

Yes, definitely flowers!

I try and check mine and click any offers that I could possibly use. And then I don’t think about it again because it’s too much trouble to remember which card had which offer. But sometimes I get a nice little surprise that I happened to use the right card at the right time and I get the rebate. 😁

Could you have use your credit cards to purchase Carnival gift cards and pay the booking with gift cards and the remaining balance with one credit card?
Nancy says
@Mike Yes, but I’m not sure the advantage to doing that?

I rarely look at my Amex offers, and never for Chase. The number of times I actually find something useful on there is pretty rare.

@projectx Same, although I want to get better at checking
