I like to keep blog readers apprised of all the ways I earn miles and points for my trips. My husband and I operate in two-player mode when it comes to signing up for new credit cards to earn miles and points bonuses. It’s been about six weeks since my last credit card approval, and I recently met the minimum spending required for the bonus. Now, it’s his turn for a new card.
The Winner
My husband is in the same position I am in. He’s got a lot of cards with Chase, he’s ineligible for the Citi Premier bonus right now and he’s not getting approved for Amex cards. Our choices are somewhat limited.
Surprise, surprise. He applied for the same card I recently got: Bank of America Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard (non-affiliate link). The sign-up offer isn’t as razzle dazzle as some of the other current best offers, but it will help us inch closer to our travel goals. He was instantly approved.
The details:
- Spend $2000 in the first 90 days to earn 50,000 Flying Blue miles
- $89 annual fee not waived
- 3X miles on Air France, KLM and SkyTeam member airlines
- 1.5X miles on all other purchases
- 5000 bonus miles on your anniversary if you’ve spent $50 that year
- No foreign transaction fees
Plans for the Miles
I’ve had success booking business class seats on Air France for our trip to Europe next summer. We hope to go a different part of Europe and Asia the following summer. The 50k points is almost enough for one business class seat or two economy seats from DFW to Paris. We can transfer some Chase Ultimate Rewards points to the program to get the additional points we need.
Air France seems to have decent award space from DFW and Chicago. Hopefully, that will still be the case when we try to book next summer.
