Today, Hyatt revealed plans to open a new family all-inclusive Hyatt Ziva resort in Riviera Cancun. Slated to open in 2021, the Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun resort will be located 30 minutes from the Cancun airport and will have 438 rooms. See the full press release here and the hotel website here.
It appears that the location is the former Secrets Silversands Riviera Maya that has been vacant for a few years. Here is a video of the old resort.
Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun will have 17 restaurants and bars. The new resort will include a spa, water park, KidZ Club, infinity pools and oceanfront dining.
The existing Hyatt Ziva Cancun is so well reviewed. I have tentative plans to try out the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana in Punta Cana later this year. With the current pause on cruise vacations, it makes sense for Hyatt to expand its all-inclusive portfolio.
The Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun will likely cost 25,000 points a night for two people, which is the points price for comparative Hyatt Ziva properties.
Are you excited about this new resort? I am!

I feel sorry for this resort that they had the gang shooting when they had not been open long at all. That is probably going to scare off some people.

Thank you for sharing this very exciting news! This town has a protected reef area with incredible snorkeling. They have a shallow area of the reef where you can see many colorful fish and corals. I hope all the resort guests would be considerate of the coral reef and use special sunscreen that does not damage the reefs. It costs more money so some people will not do it. But once you see the beauty it is highly motivating (at least for me) to want to protect this habitat. We used the tour company; Wetset dot com and they are right on the beach next to Don Ernestos beach bar/restaurant, in front of Ojo de Agua.

@Clyn6 It sounds like a great area. I’m excited to see how the property turns out.

We stayed at Secrets Silversands when it first opened (so early that only 1/2 the rooms were ready) I think that was ’08. Hard to remember, but I do remember we got a great deal by booking preopening.
We have stayed at A LOT of resorts down there. We really enjoyed the views (no sand whales then). The resort was built to take maximum advantage of sea views from the pools and other areas, I remember lots and lots of bars (we were childless then, lol) The beach was one of the worst. It was narrow and rocky, barely swimable then, most certainly not now with the sargassum, I’m sure.
We liked it, I’m excited there’s another family resort option with sea views, waterpark and swim ups so close to the airport. I would also say that it’s closer than 30 minutes from CUN, more like 20, imo. I’m excited!

@Lindy How cool that you stayed there! I’m excited for this new family option as well.

Let’s hope it didn’t go to pure crap like Ziva-Zillara Rose Hall Jamaica.

I went to Ziva in Jamaica this past November. The grounds were great but the staff was nowhere near as nice and accommodating as in Cancun. Of course post covid everything is different now.

@Sam – When did you stay there and exactly what didn’t you like? I’ve stayed at around a couple of dozen all-inclusives and the Zilara in Montego Bay was the best by a large margin. Large comfortable rooms, amazing beach with no boat vendors, shockingly good food, no reservations required at restaurants, and wonderful staff. My only wish would have been for a piano bar.

I stayed at Zilara Rose Hall in mid-November 2020 and they DID require reservations for supper. The only option for breakfast was at the buffet on the far Ziva size, unless you just wanted a muffin from the coffee shop. The buffet was not open for any meals other than breakfast. I felt like there were very few options for bars and restaurants. There were very few people there so that might be why so few places were open for drinks or food. It did rain the whole 3 days we were there so that did negatively influence our feelings towards our stay. They did have good quality entertainment in the evening. I might give it a 2nd try if we went again at a more busy time of year.

Interesting that Hyatt is getting another AI in Cancun. I wonder if the different hotels will have visiting privileges like Sandals does between locations in Montego Bay. My wife and I greatly enjoyed the Zilara in Montego Bay but the ability to flit between locations in Cancun might make Mexico a winner for next time.
Nancy says
@Christian That would be great if they did have reciprocal visiting privileges between the two Cancun properties!
Clyn6 says
Right now due to Covid they do not let you visit the other resort. And before Covid it was very limited to what was allowed. They are quite a bit away from each other.
