Royal Caribbean Announces Two More Cruise Ships to Sail from Foreign Ports this Summer

Cruise lines continue to bypass the CDC to get their ships sailing this summer. Last week, I wrote about ships sailing directly from The Bahamas and St. Maarten. This week, Royal Caribbean announced a ship will sail from Bermuda and another will sail from Cyprus.

The Details

Vision of the Seas will begin sailing from Bermuda, offering 7-night cruises that overnight in Bermuda and visit CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island in The Bahamas. Sailings begin June 26 and last through August. Itineraries go on sale starting March 29, 2021.

A requirement for this cruise is that all adults 18 and over must be fully vaccinated from Covid. Kids 17 and younger must show a negative Covid test in order to board. All passengers flying to Bermuda must also show a negative PCR test upon arrival to Bermuda.

Jewell of the Seas will be sailing from a new homeport of Cyprus on 7-night Greek Isle cruises. Port stops include Athens, Rhodes, Crete, Mykonos and Santorini. Sailings begin July 10 and will be available to book starting April 7, 2021. Just like on the other previously announced cruises, guests 18 and older will need to show proof of Covid vaccination.

My Thoughts

I sailed to Bermuda in 2019, and it’s a gorgeous island. The itinerary for Vision of the Seas sounds fabulous! However, I’m not excited that it’s on a smaller and older ship. I would love to sail to the Greek Isles someday, maybe after my kids are grown and flown.

But alas, my summer plans are already full due to rescheduled trips from last year. I will be watching how these cruises do as far as Covid containment to get a feel for how my fall cruise might go.

Until the CDC makes progress with safety requirements for U.S. ports, cruise lines will continue to seek other ports that will allow them to keep sailing. I hope cruises can start sailing out of the U.S. by fall.

What do you think of these new itineraries?
