I try to keep up with all the cruise line news since my family is a big fan of cruising and I know many readers are as well. Here is the latest:
Royal Caribbean Announces 2022-2023 Caribbean Itineraries
This morning, Royal Caribbean loaded 7-night cruises on their website to the Bahamas and the Caribbean for Fall 2022 and Spring 2023. That’s right, you can book a cruise that’s more than two years out (through April 2023).
I checked out the prices, and in my opinion they are dramatically higher than in the past (but still not Disney Cruise Line high!). I believe this is because so many people are getting 125% future cruise credits to use from canceled cruises in 2020 and 2021.
Galveston is Finally Getting an Oasis-class Ship! (Really, this time)
The biggest news from this release is that Galveston is finally getting an Oasis-class ship with all most of the bells and whistles. Allure of the Seas will begin sailing from the port of Galveston beginning November 2022.
Some of you may remember how excited I was when Royal Caribbean first made this announcement to begin sailing a “big” ship from Galveston in 2021. But, then the pandemic happened. The new dock in Galveston was delayed, and Allure of the Seas didn’t get the big refurbishment it was supposed to get in 2020.
Galveston recently confirmed that construction of the new pier will begin next month. Even though Allure of the Seas doesn’t quite have all the features that other Oasis-class ships have due to the cancelled refurbishment, it’s still a great boon for Texans.
Virgin Voyages Delays Premiere Until July
Virgin Voyages, the adults-only brand new cruise line, pushed out its debut one more month to July 2021 (for now). This new cruise line was positioned to premier last year, but then Covid hit. The company keeps pushing out cruises month by month, along with the other cruise lines.
Disney and Carnival Cancel Extend Cancellations
Last week, both DCL and Carnival announced further cancellations through May 2021. Disney also cancelled some cruises through August 2021 that were slated to sail in Europe.
Alaska Cruises Still Up in the Air (Sort-of)
Based on the announcement that Canada will not allow cruise ships to dock this summer, many assume that Alaska cruises are cancelled. Cruise ships departing from the U.S. must stop in a foreign port, which is Canada on the way to Alaska. Holland America, Princess and Seabourn have already cancelled some Alaskan cruises.
However, cruise lines are hopeful they can salvage the Alaska summer cruising season by working with the Canadian government and U.S. government on a compromise. If Canada will allow ships to dock without any passengers or crew disembarking, that could be a work-around for the Jones Act requirement.
P&O Alters Course
P&O Cruises is halting its international itineraries through August and September. Instead, this summer the cruise line will sail locally around the UK for “staycation” cruises.

This article is very good and all the things written in this article are to be appreciated and it is very good everywhere.
I knew cruise prices would go way up. When you take many of the past cancelled cruises rolled into future cruise credits the damage for what is available is really high. Then add in the 125% credits and such they can ask more (or fix the price accordingly). Many cruise lines have sold off older ships giving them less cheap capacity. There is also pent up demand which will make the cruises cost more or actually less discounted. Also the cruise lines are hurting and may survive long enough to sail again with massive debt and maybe even sail with less capacity. It’s a perfect storm making future cruises much higher than what we have seen before.
Yep, all of those things! I’m glad we already re-booked a cruise for 2022 before too many were cancelled. In comparison, I feel like we got a great deal and I don’t want to let it go.
