Why I Changed My Mind About the Hyatt Promo

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about how I was going to skip the new World of Hyatt credit card promo that is worth up to 5000 bonus points. Well, I’ve officially flip-flopped on the issue. I’m now participating in the promo for two reasons.

I May Need the Points Later this Year After All

My husband and I still have three free Hyatt certs to burn this year. So when the promo first came out, I was doubtful that I would need any more Hyatt points this year.

However, I may need more points after all. In October, I have a cruise booked with my daughter. I am very skeptical that this cruise will happen for various reasons. Lately, I’ve been brainstorming alternative ideas for a trip. Many of those ideas would involve World of Hyatt points.

So, an extra 10k points (5k from my card and 5k from my husband’s card) is possible with this promo. Putting forth the effort knowing I have possible plans to use the points is more motivating to me.

Readers Convinced Me

I welcome blog comments, and I read them all. Several of you commented on my original post and suggested doing Amazon gift card reloads to get an easy 50 transactions in a month. I was skeptical about my card transactions being flagged by Chase, but Leana pointed out that the promo is from Hyatt, not Chase.

So this month, I’ve been re-loading Amazon gift cards in low amounts every day. So far, so good. And, it’s been very easy and quick.

Bottom Line

I don’t always change my monthly spending to chase after credit card promos. Sometimes, the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze.

But when I thought about this particular Hyatt promo again, I decided the additional points are worth some easy online transactions. If you have changed your mind about this promo, there is still time.

Thought it would be a challenge but almost there! If you put mostly everything on a cc it’s surprising how much you really are spending. Including monthly bills

Glad to hear I’m not the only one skeptical over a Fall cruise. We have a Fall cruise scheduled for Japan after the Olympics. Not encouraging that polls show 80% of their population wants the games cancelled or postponed again. The spread of COVID variants, which have infected people previously recovered from COVID, and which seem immune to some current vaccines, is highly problematic. Traditionally, Japan has used temperature sensing on entry to thwart importing disease but that won’t flag asymptomatic carriers. And we know vaccines will not necessarily stop you from being a “normal” COVID carrier or a “variant” COVID carrier. Once a vaccinated person carries in a variant and spreads infection to a population heavily vaccinated for “normal” COVID, all travel bets are off.

Lot of easy ways to break up transactions. Run $2 at the pump and then fill the rest of your tank with the card that pays bonus points for gas. Also I have a medical bill due, paying a few $ per day online. When at Costco, buy the cheapest item then put the rest on a Freedom card paying 5% this quarter. I’m well on my way to 50 by month end.

Glad you’re also finding easy ways to make it work. I’m dreaming of using those points for a trip to warmer weather right now.
