I Got an Unexpected Travel Fix Last Night

I miss travel. We all miss travel. Sure, my family went to a couple of vacation rentals last summer. But, I miss other kinds of travel. You know, the kind where you visit new places and explore the wonders of a different area.

But last night, I got an unexpected travel fix that soothed my soul and left me feeling optimistic about future travel. I watched a Facebook Live session with Samantha Brown and Rick Steves (both are travel gurus with their own books and shows).

For over 90 minutes, I feasted my eyes on parts of Switzerland and laughed at the anecdotes shared by the experts. The atmosphere was relaxed and jovial. Comments by the fans were thoughtful, not snarky. Time flew.

After the session, I excitedly told my husband about a town I learned about and how we absolutely must add it to our Switzerland itinerary for 2022. I wondered aloud if we could extend our planned trip for a few more days.

It was so nice to be in the company of other travelers who are optimistic about traveling again. Last night, I felt energized and encouraged that travel will return again soon.

Samantha Brown has Facebook Live sessions every Thursday night. What took me so long to participate? Count me in.

Have you found a way to get your travel fix without traveling during these challenging times?

Visit new places and explore the wonders of a different area. I like that line to know that you are curious about to explore the wonders of different places. https://www.auntcarolscondos.com

Which town in Switzerland? We’re considering a Spain- Switzerland trip sometime in the next couple of years.

@projectx Martigny. What sold me is the St. Bernard training center (Barryland–you can go hiking with St. Bernards!), and it’s close to Gruyeres (with the cheese factory tour) and a chocolate factory.

@projectx We’d probably overnight in nearby Montreux

Nancy, I’m hoping that you do stay overnight in Montreux because it’s an absolutely beautiful town!! It was included in our guided tour and our hotel room had the perfect view of town and lake. My main reason for booking the tour was for the ride through the Alps to Lugano, and that was canceled thanks to Covid – I was heartbroken!

@Peggy Great to hear you liked Montreux! I’m so sorry your ride to Lugano was canceled.

I closed my Facebook page long ago but miss it when there are events Live, such as with Samantha and Rick. I returned from Switzerland last March 15, when they started temperature checks at airports. Got a super light case of Covid the next day and it was gone in 24 hours. I confess I had to travel 3 months later (feeling invincible), so there’s no other way I can get a travel fix anymore after being homebound and SUFFERING while our kids grew! Did a couple road trips over time before going to Hawaii for my birthday in November (hubby already had the virus by then).

@Peggy I’m glad you got to visit Switzerland before everything shut down! Lucky! I was in Costa Rica last March when the world started quarantining.
