New Hyatt All-inclusive Opening in Barbados: From Deals We Like, a new all-inclusive Hyatt Ziva will be opening in Barbados in 2022. This property was originally supposed to be a Hyatt Centric, and I’ve been keeping my eye on it for a few years now because I’d love to visit Barbados on points. Now, the design has switched to the Hyatt Ziva all-inclusive model. Construction has not yet started, so I’d be shocked if it actually opens in 2022. Hyatt is famous for delays on their Caribbean properties. Are you excited for this new resort?
Hotels Consider Adding Covid-19 Surcharges: From One Mile at a Time, at least one hotel chain is floating around the idea of adding Covid-19 Surcharges. I think this is a terrible idea. If hotels need to spend more on cleaning, just bake it into the base price. If one brand starts this, it will likely spread.
Canceled Maui Trip: From Miles to Memories, check out Mark’s post on the many reasons why he canceled his big anniversary trip to Maui this summer. I think he made the right call.
How We Survived a Night in a Spider-infested Yurt: This post on Points With a Crew is my worst nightmare. I wouldn’t have slept a wink.
Our First Post-Covid-19 Visit to an Orlando Theme Park: This post on Your Mileage May Vary was interesting to me. I wouldn’t mind going to CityWalk when it has low traffic. I do think that as the summer goes on, it will be harder to keep the crowds socially distanced.

Went to Barbados in 2018 and of all the Caribbean islands it is my least favorite. Maybe I set my expectations too high but I really wanted to love it. The beaches were just ok, I wouldnt classify the island as “easy” to get around. The people were nice but the island simply didnt wow me. Also, depending where they put this resort will make a big difference. The east side and somewhat southern is where the AIs like Sandals are located. Nice properties but definitely not on the side of the island with the nice beaches.

@Lee Thanks for sharing your perspective on Barbados! This hotel will be in the heart of Bridgetown on the west side of the island. I’ll wait to read reports and see photos before attempting a stay there.
