This morning, my husband went grocery shopping based on a list we created for our upcoming road trip getaway. As I unpacked the items and looked at them, I had to chuckle. No matter where we go or how good or bad our destination is, our kids will at least be happy with this part of our travel:
Relaxed Vacation Rules
This week, our car will be packed with hot dogs, chips, candy, cookies and soda. At home, I’m not a huge health nut, but I like to minimize the junk food where we can.
When my family goes on vacation, we relax the rules. We don’t normally have soda and candy in our house. But on vacation? I’ll allow it.
Normally on vacations, we go out to eat more than at home. If soda is on the menu, my kids can get it.
My kids especially love the freedom of food choice on a cruise ship. On our last cruise, my daughter had bacon and donuts for breakfast every morning.
But, it’s not really just about eating junk food. It’s about relaxing rules on other things, like bed times and sleeping arrangements. It’s about me getting a break from being the rule enforcer, and about us all enjoying some splurges and freedoms.
Do you relax the rules on vacation? What things do you allow and encourage on vacations that you don’t do at home?
