Amex Gives More Time, 7 ways Air Travel Will Change, Travel Comes Back

April 3, 2020 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Amex Offering Customers More Time to Meet Minimum Spending: Kudos to American Express. Amex just notified customers who applied for a new credit card between December 1, 2019 and May 31, 2020 that they have an extra 3 months to complete the minimum spending required to trigger the welcome bonus. As many people’s income and expenses have shrunk lately, this is welcome news. See this post from The Points Pundit.

Spirit Airlines Cutting 90% of Flights: According to Seth Miller, Spirit Airlines has cut 90% of its flights. This would make the airline out of compliance to receive federal coronavirus aid. I currently have a summer flight on Spirit. I checked on it, and it appears my flight was canceled and I was moved to a much earlier flight (9 hours early). Because of the significant time change, I’m requesting a flight refund (not a cancellation with a voucher). I’m worried this airline won’t be around in a few months.

7 Ways Coronavirus May Change Air Travel: Check out this interesting post on Point Me to the Plane. I agree that we may see stricter visa requirements that are possibly tied to health screenings.

Travel Comes Back: My Thoughts on Covid-19: I’m a big fan of travel guru Samantha Brown. Her optimistic post says it’s ok to mourn your loss of travel, and she gives some tips on how to spend your time dreaming of your next trip. However, I believe that this coronavirus situation is unique from every other “travel on hold” situation in the recent past. Travel will come back, but it won’t be nearly as soon as it was after those other events.
