Predicting the New Normal, Cruise Nightmares, Southwest’s Generosity

7 Reasons We Won’t See Normal Anytime Soon: Interesting post from Gary at View From the Wing. I agree that we will see (or should see) much more contact-less technology in the future. And surely Disney World won’t keep expecting us to scan our finger after thousands before us touched the same scanner.

Chase Closing 20% of Its Branches in the U.S.: See this post on Miles to Memories about Chase temporarily closing 20% of its branches. Check here to see if your nearest branch is open. My nearest Chase branch is still open, for now.

Cruise Nightmare: Many Ships STILL Stranded Around the Globe with Thousands of Passengers: The cruise industry is in a tail spin, and there is still bad news coming from cruise ships. See this post from Miles to Memories. I know a passenger on one of these stranded ships.

Royal Caribbean Amplifications on Hold: Speaking of cruises, Royal Caribbean has put the amplification of two ships on hold. Allure of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas were both set to undergo amplifications this year. However, Royal Caribbean is going to have a serious capital shortage, which I think will postpone these improvements for possibly years. I hope I’m wrong. It’s a bummer for Texans, who are finally going to get an Oasis-class ship in Galveston next year. Allure will be the only Oasis-class ship without water slides and all the bells and whistles of the other Oasis-class ship. See this post on RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com.

Southwest Extends Travel Funds Due to Coronavirus, and It’s Quite Generous: From Deals We Like, Southwest extended the expiration of travel funds that were due to expire in the near term. When you pay for a flight with cash and then cancel it, you’re left with a travel fund that you must use within 12 months. Now, the travel funds that were set to expire between now and May 31 are expiring in June 2021.

Enjoy your weekend, and stay safe!

This is going to be the new normal for awhile. I look forward to a vacation at some point! It’s going to be a long time, though.

I feel so fortunate that I was able to sneak in a cruise last month before things escalated! Can’t imagine being stuck on a cruise ship right now.

@Kacie I’m glad you were able to go on your cruise last month! We have 3 future cruises planned…I’m not sure if we will make it on them. Everything is so uncertain now.
