On January 25, 2020, Shanghai Disneyland temporarily closed due to concerns of the coronavirus. The next day, Hong Kong Disneyland also closed.
At Shanghai Disneyland, everything is closed including the park, hotels and theatre. At Hong Kong Disneyland, the hotel remains open with limited services while just the park is closed.
Shanghai Disneyland is automatically refunding dated park tickets within 45 days. Since tickets at Hong Kong Disneyland are valid for six months, guests must request refunds at this time.
While Tokyo Disney is still open, all cast members are required to wear face masks. All character meet and greets have been suspended.
Unprecedented Closures and Financial Repercussions
While the Disney Parks in the US have closed briefly due to weather and the September 11 terrorist attacks, the parks have never been subject to closures of this length and magnitude.
Because the closures are ongoing and indefinite, the financial impact to Disney could be significant. Since the start of the outbreak, Disney stock dropped but recently started to rebound.
As of this post’s publication time, the coronavirus has infected over 17,000 people and has killed 362 people. The virus has been confirmed in over 25 countries, and over 60 million people are in lockdown in China.

I’m not super concerned about our summer trip to Japan. At least not at this point. Despite close proximity to China, I figured they will be screening airline travelers like crazy. Since there is no land border, it will hopefully decrease the risk as well. I am very glad I didn’t add a stopover in China. I was so close to pulling the trigger too. I just can’t take any chances with young children.

@Leana I’m glad you’re not concerned. It’s so hard to say what will happen with the coronavirus in the next few weeks and months.
