I always say that “next year we won’t travel as much.” Well, I tried. We don’t have any 2- or 3- week trips like we had the previous two years. But, we are still traveling quite a bit.
Spring
Spring Break Costa Rica Trip: This trip is almost entirely on miles and points. We are flying to Miami Beach for two days and staying at the Confidante. Then, we fly to Costa Rica for five nights at the Andaz Papagayo. We even got an upgrade offer that includes the breakfast buffet.
I used points from our World of Hyatt cards for the hotels and British Airways Avios (transferred from our Chase cards) for flights on AA. We would not be going on this trip if it weren’t for miles and points!
Treehouse B&B: This will be our 4th year staying at this charming treehouse B&B on a lavender farm an hour away from our house. We only stay one night, but it’s like we’re in a different world. See my original review here.
Family visit: We will likely visit family over a 3-day weekend in the spring. Road trip.
Summer
Summer is where our travels get kinda crazy. Since I’m not taking my oldest son out of school for trips anymore, we have to squeeze a lot in over school vacation.
Disney World: For our big trip, we’re hitting the easy button and going to Disney World for a week. We will also spend one day at Universal. We rented DVC points for our stay. My family hasn’t stayed a full week at Disney World since 2010. We’ve done quick one- or two-day visits before a cruise, but this time we’re going to all four parks. I plan to use Chase Ultimate Rewards to book our flights.
College Visit: As I mentioned the other day, we’re going on our first college tour this summer. It’s just over 3 hours from our house, and we will spend one night there. I was going to use points to stay at a Hyatt or Marriott, but I decided to book an independent hotel that has 2-bedroom condos.
Gymnastics Olympic Trials: Just my daughter and I are going to attend the U.S. Gymnastics Olympic trials in St. Louis (see my post). I used World of Hyatt points to book our hotel, and I’m hoping to scrape up enough Chase Ultimate Reward points to book our flights.
All-inclusive in Mexico: My family is hopping down to Cancun for 3 nights at a brand new all-inclusive (see this post). I found some cheap flights on Sun Country airlines and used points from my Capital One Venture Card to erase the cost.
Denver: I haven’t booked this trip yet, but I plan to take my middle son with me on a trip to Denver this summer. I usually book flights close in during a sale for less than $100 each. I have a Marriott gift card to burn, so I’d like to stay at the new Gaylord Rockies hotel.
Fall
Boston: We are using our free night certs from our Chase IHG cards for two nights in Boston (see this post). My husband and son will travel there to see the Laver Cup.
Broken Bow Cabin Retreat: I’ve wanted to rent a cabin in the Broken Bow/Beaver’s Bend area of Oklahoma for years. This is the year we’re finally doing it! The area is only a 2 ½-hour drive from our house.
Miles and points are not covering 100% of all of these trips. But, they are helping us shave off some hotel and airfare costs and enabling us to take more trips this year.
Where are your miles and points taking you in 2020? Tell me about your trip that you are most excited about in the comments.

Your travel plans sound amazing! It’s impressive how you’re making the most of miles and points to explore so many destinations. The Costa Rica trip and Disney World week are especially exciting. I’m also intrigued by the idea of staying in a treehouse B&B—what a unique experience! Thanks for sharing your plans; it’s inspiring to see how you’re leveraging rewards to make travel more accessible. Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures!
