Last summer, Disney Cruise Line announced the name of its 5th cruise ship, the Disney Wish. Steel cutting should begin in March, and the Disney Wish will start sailing in early 2022.
There is a lot of hype and pent-up demand for this new cruise ship. After all, DCL only has four cruise ships while its competitors have dozens.
While we don’t know much about the Disney Wish, I do hope that this new ship is not identical to its predecessors. Here is my wish list for the new Disney Wish.
New Shows
Each DCL ship has three Broadway-style shows, and some of the shows are on multiple ships. I’ve seen them all. While they are all great, I hope that the Disney Wish has a new theatre show.
Some ideas: Moana, Star Wars the musical, or some type of Marvel show?
More Recreation Options for Teens and Tweens
After sailing on a Royal Caribbean Cruise last summer, it was obvious to me that DCL really lacks recreation options for tweens and teens. I don’t feel like this age group should have to migrate to Royal. Teens like Disney stuff, too!
Maybe the Wish could have indoor laser tag or an escape room that is Disney-themed. I would love to see some outdoor recreation options for older kids as well. Perhaps it’s a zipline or a water slide designed for those who seek more action.
Different Dining Experiences
I would like to see more and different dining experiences on the Disney Wish. This could include a main dining room with a distinct theme or a new upcharge adults-only restaurant. Maybe it’s a specialty restaurant that is open to kids as well, like Wonderland on Royal Caribbean.
I would also love to see a Mexican fast-food place on deck. Quesadillas, tacos and chips and guacamole would be so easy.
Buffet Dinner Option
Speaking of dining, I would love to see a buffet option for dinner. It doesn’t have to be the entire Cabanas buffet, but even opening up part of that restaurant for a dinner buffet would be a huge win.
I loved having the option of a buffet dinner on Royal. It was a great place for the kids to grab a quick dinner that wasn’t fast-food. Most of DCL’s competitors have a buffet available for dinner.
Technology
I hope the Disney Wish incorporates some new technology into the cruising experience. This could be the ability to open our staterooms through the app or more interactive games/paintings throughout the ship. Surprise me!
Bottom Line
I know that sailing on the Disney Wish will be more expensive than on the “older” Disney ships. But, I don’t want to pay more for the newness factor unless there are different experiences that make the upcharge worth it.
Are you hoping to sail on the Disney Wish in 2022? What features do you want on the new ship?

As an avid cruiser I wasn’t aware DCL didn’t offer buffet at dinner. That is a shock as every mainline cruise line I’ve been on has this as an option. It isn’t something I do normally but usually at least once per cruise you are tired or under the weather and just want a quick bit of food.
This new ship will be super expensive as most new ships are. What Disney should do is lower the cruise price on the oldest ship to balance this. The main reason I haven’t cruised with Disney is the price. Having at least one ship with a lower price point might tempt me enough to become addicted to DCL.

@DaninMCI Yeah, no buffet at dinner. The buffet restaurant is open, but there is no buffet and it is seated service with items from the MDR. We tried that on our last cruise, but it was still fairly slow because they were training servers in there. Here’s hoping the older ships will drop in price!
