Over $4k in Credit Card Annual Fees: I admit, when I read this post by Grant on Travel with Grant I let out an audible gasp. While I don’t have that many current credit cards, this is a good exercise to do with all of your cards (especially the ones with annual fees). I plan to write a post on my cards with annual fees next week.
Will Families Finally Sit Together on Flights?: Remember a few years ago when there was a big hullaballoo about a new law that would require airlines to seat families together on flights? (See this post). Well, it fizzled out and never came to fruition. Now, Senator Chuck Schumer is trying to fix it. Check out this informative post by Your Mileage May Vary.
Southwest Now Shows Expiry Date for Travel Funds: Check out this post from Doctor of Credit. If you book a flight with cash and then you see a lower cash price, you can get a refund on the difference in the form of a travel fund that must be used within a year of the date you booked the original reservation. It’s always been a pain to keep track of those travel funds, but now you can at least see the expiry date online.
Happy About Hyatt Devaluation: This post by Ziggy at Traveling for Miles sure has a “glass half full” outlook. I agree that it could have been worse, but last year there were some significant devaluations at favorite hotels within the brand (i.e. Andaz Papagayo and Hyatt Regency Coconut Point). Also, as an Explorist, I’m no longer getting free lounge certificates. But yes, it could have been worse.
Affordable International Travel: I enjoyed reading Ian’s post on Travel Update about modern affordability of travel. Even without miles and points, there are some bargains out there.
Goodbye, SuperShuttle: From Gary at View From the Wing, SuperShuttle will be no more as of December 31. I haven’t been on Super Shuttle in several years, but I used to ride the blue vans quite often when I lived in the Los Angeles area in the early 2000’s.
Enjoy your weekend!

Hi Nancy, thanks for linking to my CC AF post. I know the total is really large, but I feel like I can justify keeping each CC and paying the AF each year. My wife and I are saving up for a house, so we are not applying for new CCs (bye bye large sign up bonuses). I’m looking forward to reading about the CCs you keep with AFs 🙂

Hi Grant! You were very thorough in your post with your analysis on each card’s value. I was shocked to see your total, but then again I’m sure you travel much more than my family. I started adding up my annual fees in my head, and my total is going to be larger than I thought!

Yes, I think I do travel quite a bit (married, no kids). I try to do 3 1 week vacations throughout the year and a few shorter weekend trips throughout the year.
