Airbnb vs. VRBO, Hyatt Centric Waikiki Playing Tricks, United Changes and More

October 11, 2019 By Nancy Leave a Comment

United Mileage Plus Reveals Massive Changes for 2020: United revealed major changes to how you earn elite status starting in 2020. See this post on One Mile at a Time. Many people are upset with this. I’ve never had status on United or any other airline, so this doesn’t really affect my family’s vacation travel.

Use Alaska Miles for Singapore Rewards: Via Miles to Memories, you can now use Alaska miles to book awards on Singapore Airlines. This isn’t the best use of Alaska miles. But, having more options to use miles is always better news!

Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach Playing Tricks with Award Availability: Gary from View from the Wing is great about exposing hotels that try to trick the system and not allow us to use points. Read his post about what’s going on with Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach.

Hyatt Expands SLH Partnership to 250+ Hotels: Speaking of Hyatt, another wave of hotels was just added to the SLH partnership and are now bookable using World of Hyatt points. See this post on One Mile at a Time. Most of the properties are international and at the top end of the award chart, so I’m not super excited about this new wave. Do you see any new properties that excite you for an award stay?

Differences Between Airbnb and VRBO: This was an interesting post on Travel With a Plan about the differences between Airbnb and VRBO. I’ve looked on both sites for vacation rentals but ended up booking on VRBO each time.

How The Points Guy Built a 100- Person Media Company Off Affiliate Fees: This is an interesting article about TPG. There’s no question that Brian Kelly is a business genius. From my perspective running a small-business blog, I view TPG like Amazon. It’s very hard to compete against a company that has 15 dedicated people working on SEO.

Have a great weekend!
