I just received an email from British Airways this morning. It states that starting May 30, 2019, award prices on partner airlines are changing.
American Airlines and Alaska Airlines are included.
What does this mean? Well, at this point, we have no specific numbers. But, I can only assume that the prices will go up. Right now, within the U.S. you can fly distances less than 1150 miles for only 7500 BA Avios on partner airlines. That price is a steal, especially with the transfer bonuses from Chase and Amex that happen from time to time.
I’ve used BA Avios to fly from DFW to Puerto Vallarta, Denver and Orlando for 7500 each way.
If you have a specific flight redemption in mind on BA Avios on a partner airline, I recommend you book it now. If you end up canceling the flight, you are just out the award taxes, and the miles are refunded to your account.
Readers, what do you think of this development?

I have been earning MR points and planning to transfer to Avios for my hawaii flights next year. It’s too far out to book but hopefully the devaluation is not too bad (fingers crossed)
Nancy says
@Lea Hopefully it’s not too bad! It’s so frustrating to be planning and saving for a trip, and then have a devaluation happen before you can book.

Ugh, that really stinks! I plan on using Avios for my Asia flights and can’t book before May 30th. I’m sure I will end up paying more, but such is life. I wish they provided more details because I hate uncertainty.
Nancy says
Yeah, it sucks. I hope it’s just a minor increase. Hopefully BA will provide more details before May 30.
