Travel News Recap: Variable Award Pricing, Hotwire Mystery Trick, New Rules at Disney and More

March 29, 2019 By Nancy Leave a Comment

IHG Started Variable Rewards Pricing: Based on these examples on Points Adventure, it appears that IHG has started variable rewards pricing. IHG said it would start it this year, but nothing formal has been announced. This isn’t good for travel during peak times.

United Using More Variable Award Pricing: Several blogs have reported that United is starting to use more variable pricing on award flights. Some shorter routes are as low as 5000 miles. However, variable pricing usually means other flights go up in miles. H/T Doctor of Credit.

Aeroplan 30% Bonus on Hotel Point Transfers: Via Running With Miles, Aeroplan is offering a 30% (or 35% if you’re targeted) bonus through hotel point transfers through April 22, 2019. Aeroplan (Air Canada) miles are useful for United award flights. For my upcoming trip to New Zealand, I transferred Amex Membership Rewards to Aeroplan to book a flight on United. If you are swimming in hotel points, this might be worth exploring.

How to Figure Out Hotwire Mystery Hotels: This post from Travel Is Free details how to find out your Hotwire Mystery Hotel. I haven’t used Hotwire in a long time for a hotel booking, but if you use it for last-minute deals this could be valuable.

Disney Parks Ban Smoking, Large Strollers/Wagons and Ice Cubes: The internet is buzzing about these recently announced changes from Disney. See this recap from Summer at Mommy Points.

Frontier Extends Kids Fly Free Dates: Last month I wrote about Frontier Airlines’ Kids Fly Free deal. This week, Frontier extended its schedule into November. You can now find Kids Fly Free dates through November 19, 2019.

Have a great weekend!
