Last summer, my husband and I both signed up for World of Hyatt credit cards when the bonus was 60,000 points. We have lots of ideas on how to spend our points stash with current Hyatt properties.
In addition to all of the Small Luxury Hotels that are gradually getting mixed into Hyatt’s award chart, Hyatt has some new construction projects that are piquing my interest for future award stays.
Hyatt Place Tokyo Bay
Hyatt Place Tokyo Bay will be the first Hyatt Place to open in Japan. It is currently scheduled to open in July 2019, but it’s not yet open for bookings.
My family is considering going to Japan for the Olympics in 2020. This hotel is close to Tokyo Disneyland. I’m interested to see if it will have rooms that sleep 5-6 people like other Hyatt Place locations.
Hyatt Centric Barbados
News sources have been talking about a new Hyatt in Barbados for a few years now. Hyatt released information three years ago that the hotel would open in 2019, but new reports now say the hotel won’t open until 2020.
Hyatt Centric Barbados appears to be in a great location on the beach and adjacent to Bridgetown. Barbados is a Caribbean island on my travel wish list. I’d love to visit the caves and the island’s different beaches.
Grand Hyatt Grand Cayman Hotel and Residences
Last year, Hyatt announced plans for a 351-room hotel on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman. My family visited Grand Cayman earlier this year on a cruise, and we’d love to go back for a land vacation. Grand Cayman is a beautiful island!
The hotel will have a destination spa as well as three swimming pools and a kids club. It is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Andaz Turks and Caicos
Last fall, Hyatt announced plans to build the first Andaz in the Caribbean with Andaz Turks and Caicos. The hotel will have standard hotel rooms as well as residences for rent with one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. Some units will have private plunge pools.
Andaz Turks and Caicos will have a spa, several pools and a kids club. The photos and descriptions in this article look and sound amazing. It’s scheduled to open in 2021. I predict this will be the next “it” hotel among miles and points hobbyists and travel bloggers.
Hyatt Saint Lucia
A few months ago, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia announced the sale of land to a company that will develop a new 400-room Hyatt hotel. According to articles, the hotel will have all-inclusive options. Construction is expected to start in the back half of 2019.
I have always wanted to visit Saint Lucia. To me, it is one of the most picturesque islands in the Caribbean, and it reminds me of Hawaii.
Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana, Punta Cana
As you can tell by most of the resorts I’ve listed above, I love the Caribbean. So I can’t leave out the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana. I wrote about this all-inclusive hotel a few weeks ago. It is now open for bookings with points!
Oceanside, CA Boutique Hotels
Hyatt recently announced plans to open two boutique hotels in Oceanside, California as part of a large West Coast expansion. One hotel will have 226 guestrooms, and the other will have 161 guestrooms. Most rooms will have ocean views. One of the hotels will feature the house from the Top Gun movie, and it will be accessible to the public.
When my family went to San Diego several years ago, we spent a day at Oceanside beach. We would love to return!
Hyatt Place London City/East
Last fall, Hyatt announced plans to open a new Hyatt Place in central London in 2020. While there are already two Hyatt Place hotels in London, they are on the outskirts of the city. This will be the first Hyatt Place located in the city center.
I would like to take my kids to Europe in the next several years, and London is one of the cities on my radar. Hyatt Place is a good fit for my family because most rooms fit larger families.

I would be very surprised if the Hyatt Place Tokyo Bay will accept point stay reservations during the Olympics. Olympic committees tend to be given priority for hotels. I am also looking to attend and hope I am wrong because I would be happy to pay 12,000 points per night for this hotel.
Thomas says
Correction, 15,000 points per night.
Nancy says
@Thomas You’re right, it probably won’t be an option for the Olympics. 🙁

That new Hyatt by Oceanside is local for us…we are currently booked this summer at the Marriott right behind it. I’m thinking this might be the last summer that Marriott will have an ocean view since Hyatt will probably block it once construction is finished
Nancy says
@lea It sounds like a great location! I hope your view isn’t blocked this summer.
Stephanie says
Thanks for the write-up Nancy. Tokyo and London seem interesting for our plans. I hope they’re not outrageous on points.
Nancy says
@Stephanie I’m hoping the Tokyo location will cost 15k points since the Hyatt Regency nearby is 15k. I’m not sure what to expect on the London location.
Mike F says
Park Hyatt Auckland will be the first Hyatt in New Zealand and should open later this year.
Nancy says
@Mike F I’m not as excited about the new Hyatt in Auckland. We are going to NZ this summer, but we aren’t planning to spend any time in Auckland.
Ian says
Hyatt Place Tokyo Bay, the first Hyatt Place where standard rooms hold a max of two people. In bunk beds. With 112 square feet of space.
Nancy says
@Ian Oh please, no! I’m really hoping these rooms will hold 5 people. But I’ll settle for 3 people.

Great Caribbean locations! We will have to keep them on our radar and hopefully they won’t be a gazillion points.
Nancy says
@Anonymous Yes, I’m excited for all of these new Caribbean locations!
