Today, Southwest Airlines extends flight schedules to include April 8 through June 8, 2019. This covers spring break for many areas as well as Easter, Memorial Day weekend and early summer vacations for some school districts.
A few reminders:
1). Sometimes, the lowest fares show up as soon as new schedules are released. But many times, fares will drop lower two to three months before departure dates. If you are flying to a popular destination over a holiday weekend, the chance of prices dropping are not as likely.
2). Wanna Get Away fares are the cheapest fares. Although these fares are nonrefundable, you can cancel and use the fare towards another ticket if the price drops and get a credit for the difference. See the fare rules here.
The ticket price difference can only be used toward a ticket for the named ticketed passenger. For example, if you buy a ticket for yourself for $200 and the price later drops to $100, you can cancel and rebook at the lower fare and have a $100 credit for a future flight to use within one year of your original booking date. You must use that $100 for yourself, so you can’t book another family member with that credit.
3). If you book with Southwest Rapid Reward points and the fare in points drops, you can cancel your ticket and re-book at the lower points price.
4). Many credit cards can help you fly on Southwest Airlines for free! Chase has a few Southwest credit cards, and you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest. You can also use credit cards like the Capital One Venture Rewards Card, the Barclaycard Arrival Plus or the Capital One Savor card to pay for flights.
