On our recent Florida vacation, my family spent three days at Walt Disney World. Since we only planned to spend one day in a park, I decided to schedule a character breakfast outside of the parks for me and my kids on another day. I booked the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast online several months in advance. The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast just debuted last year, and this would be a new restaurant and experience for my family.
Why Book a Character Meal at Disney World?
Booking a character meal at Disney World is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to see characters. The characters come to your table to sign autographs and pose for photos. There’s no waiting in long lines or using valuable ride time to catch the characters. In fact, for several of the character meals, you don’t even need a park ticket!
Some of the meals feature characters that are not commonly seen in the theme parks. For example, during characters meals you can see Mary Poppins, Cinderella’s stepsisters, Lilo, The Beast, Flynn Rider (from Tangled) and Prince Eric (from The Little Mermaid).
Most locations are indoors, so it’s always a welcome break from the sun or rain. Plus, eating at a sit-down restaurant gives your feet a good rest before the endless walking.
Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Location and Check-in
The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast is located in Trattoria al Forno at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. Since we had a 9 a.m. reservation, we took Lyft to the BoardWalk Inn. (After breakfast, we took a Disney bus to Disney Springs and walked back to our hotel from there).
We walked through the hotel and down to the boardwalk. A short turn to the right brought us to Trattoria al Forno.
After checking in, a hostess escorted us to our table after a few short minutes. When we sat down, we noticed the Bon Voyage Adventure Journal on our table.
The inside says:
“The best part of adventure is trying something new! Every explorer needs a travel log for their memories. Fill this journal with your adventures!”
The journal contains writing prompts like “On my travels, my favorite Disney show is….” and “My favorite snack for a trip is…”.
The Food
The food at Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast is not served family-style or from a buffet but rather as a traditional table service. I’m actually not a huge fan of buffets at character meals anyway since it’ shard to coordinate multiple trips to the buffet with kids between the arrival of characters at your table.
To start, we all received a bowl of fruit and a shared frying pan (get it? from Tangled) of pastries. Can you identify the sun-shaped pastry from the movie? Others were clam shells sealed with a pearl a la The Little Mermaid. The pastries were all delicious.
I ordered Tangled Eggs, which was like a giant omelet. The “gravy” was a thin tomato-based sauce. It was very filling, and I couldn’t eat even half of it.
My oldest son ordered the Tower of Pancakes. The pancakes were so fluffy, and the strawberry compote was so fresh. We all tasted them and agreed they were divine!
My other son ordered the Royale Breakfast, which had steak. My daughter had the character waffle from the kids’ menu, which featured Ariel and Flounder on the waffle. See the full menu here.
We were all completely stuffed after breakfast.
The Characters at Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast
This character meal features Rapunzel and Flynn Rider along with Ariel and Prince Eric. An announcer introduced the characters before they entered the dining room. In the middle of breakfast, the characters paraded around the restaurant with any and all willing participants.
Of the four, Flynn Rider was my favorite. His character is a jokester and was funny and entertaining.
All of the characters talked to us for a bit and posed for photos with us as individuals and as a group. Our interaction with them was not rushed.
Cost and Value
The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast costs $34 for adults and $20 for kids ages 3-9. The cost is the same as the Best Friends Breakfast at ‘Ohana inside Disney’s Polynesian Resort but less than the breakfast buffet at Chef Mickey’s inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
Character meals are not cheap, especially if you have kids ages 10 or older that cost the same as adults. However, a character meal is a relaxing way to guarantee a character meeting without having to buy a park ticket. On the day of our breakfast, we spent the rest of the day browsing Disney Springs and enjoying our hotel’s lazy river.
Breakfast and lunch character meals always cost less than dinners, so consider scheduling a character meal for early in the day.
Bottom Line
We enjoyed our character meal at the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast. Since we only had one park day on our trip (Animal Kingdom) and we knew we wouldn’t be visiting princesses in that park, this meal was a convenient way to add some extra Disney magic to our short stay.
Although I’m glad we tried something new, my family’s favorite character breakfast is still the Best Friends Breakfast at ‘Ohana. The pog juice, atmosphere and characters are hard to beat.

@Natasha It was a fun breakfast with good food! I’m jealous that you’ll be at Disney in a month. My husband has a work conference there in October and I’m trying to figure out a way to tag along with him. 🙂
