Leana just posted this update on the Miles For Family Facebook page:
“Hi, guys! Few readers asked me to update them on the aftermath of Irma, so here it goes. My family is fine (most important thing) and the house only sustained minor damage. We have several huge trees in the yard, but will worry about them later. We currently have no electricity and internet is sporadic. I can’t even access the blog right now, but scheduled a few posts ahead, in anticipation of the hurricane. Nancy will be taking care of everything till things are normal back here.
This was one awful storm and our county is a mess right now. The eye of Irma actually went over our neck of the woods. But this isn’t our first rodeo, and hurricane Charlie in 2004 was much worse. I will have a post with my reflections on the whole experience, but wanted to mention something. Material possessions don’t matter. It’s a cliche statement, but it’s true. Before the storm hit, all I could think about was keeping my kids safe. I wasn’t worried about the house at all. In the time of crisis, your priorities seem to become crystal clear. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who fared worse than we did.”

Glad to hear you are ok! We are doing fine too, and luckily our power was restored today. Schools here won’t open until at least Thursday. Curfew from dusk until dawn to prevent looting, etc. Many traffic lights still out so we have to be extra careful when driving around. Fortunately no flooding where we live. This was a monster hurricane and it seems like most of Florida was affected one way or another! But we’ll pick up the pieces, we’ll rebuild, and tomorrow will be another day in paradise 🙂

@TropicGal I’m so glad you guys are OK! We still don’t have power, maybe tomorrow… We also have curfew and had to spend half a day hunting for gas. On top of everything, I’m getting sick with sore throat. Ugh, bad timing, but oh well. Probably stress related. I love Florida, but not sure how many more hurricanes I can take before saying adios. 🙂
